Default Why are these coil pack wires cut and wound together?

Hi everyone, While I was installing new coil pack connectors, I noticed that some of the wires appeared to have cracked insulation so I decided to remove the outer conduit to take a better look. What I found was both wires for the rear coil pack ( cylinder 6 and 1 ) had apx 1\2" length of the insulation removed and both bare wires were then wound around each other. Why would someone do this? Clearly you have TWO INSULATED WIRES FOR A REASON. I intend to unwind these wires and repair the outer covering as Lexus engineers intended. I can't imagine the factory having done this. Would appreciate any thoughts on why this was done. Thanks everyone.
