Default Telescoping Steering wheel

Hey everyone, so this morning upon inserting the key in the ignition I noticed that the steering wheel did not fully extend toward me as it normally does. It still goes up and down but does not retract or extend. I figured it's not the fuse because if I leave it alone for a while it eventually moves in and out slowly but then dies as if it's losing power. I hear a click so I know the switch is working so it seems it's the motor that's failing. I've searched but haven't found any DIY's on replacing the motor or where the motor actually is. The dealer says it's integrated into the column and that it's a $1900 repair. Yeah no. So can anyone that's encountered this issue provide guidance? Seems like I might have to end up forking over the 2k

I had the opposite issue, my steering wheel would move in/out but not up/down. Just a single click. I took the dash apart (not that hard) and greased the motor but to no avail. Since it's stuck where I want it I haven't worried about it. I think there is DIY someplace on this site which will show you how to take apart the dash if you want to take a stab at it.

Edited to add: here is the DIY...

Whilst not entirely a fix, but perhaps more of a preventative measure, for those who have Toyota Techstream, you can set it up so that the wheel doesn't retract and extend every time you put the key in the ignition, instead you can have it set to a static position as to preserve the motor inside the steering column. Sure it won't be as fancy as a steering column that moves when you turn your car on but at least you know the motor will hold up for a bit longer.
