Headlight assembly help
Hi, new here and appreciate all the help I can get.
My girlfriends 2000 GS 300 has a wrecked driver side headlight.
I am looking for the most cost effective way to get the light functioning. She has no concern regarding appearance or style. merely looking to have it work
I gather I need to determine if it is HID or not; Correct? 2 others searching the VIN gave both answers. Stiil trying to determine the simple way to do this
- I found this but it doesn't make sense yet as I haven't dug into the car
Do I need to determine Auto Leveling?
I understand if it is HID I cannot just install a Halogen; correct?
- The wiring harness doesn't fit; correct? I don't understand why I cannot rewire it to work? 12 volts are 12 volts; no?
I gather if it "is" HID the most cost effective method is to buy a used assembly from Ebay; correct?
I imagine since the lens is broken if I just replace the lamp it will shatter with moisture; correct?
- I saw a YouTube about baking the lenses off; that seems like a finicky lot of trouble' correct?
I am mechanically inclined, electrically skilled (controls not Lexus) have the tools and can pretty much figure stuff out.
Thanks again for the noobe assistance.

Determining if it's HID or not is simple. Turn the headlights on. Then once you know, yeah, eBay is probably going to be the cheapest place to find a replacement part.Or a local auto recycler. Since the lens is broken, replace the entire lamp. If you're spending any brain power on a solution other than simply replacing the part with another of the same part, stop. Replace the broken parts and you will not have problems.
