Let' see, a four year old eight cylinder Lexus versus an eight year old twelve cylinder bimmer. I guess it depends on how much you value that "My car was named profit center of the month by BMWNA Service" bumper sticker that you could win. Don't think I can do better than the 4 seconds lost forever reading the original question comment.

Based on my own research and purchase decision,
I would definitely go with the GS400. Although the 7xx series BMW are wonderful automobiles to drive, it's another ball game when it comes to dependability. Go do some reading in the BMW forums and you'll quickly find a common theme. Problems. If not electrical, then certainly little nagging and irritating things that keep it from being a great buying/owning experience.
The 7-series has some great features that the Lexus models don't have. Cool leg rests that extend to your knees for support and comfort. A passenger side outside mirror that tilts down for easier parallel parking. A power sunscreen in the rear window. All of these gadgets and features are very appealing and make the car more sophisticated at first glance. However, these features all come with a price. The price of problematic operation and reliability, once the car has a few miles on it.
If you were asking me about the comparison between the 7 series and the LS400, then I would probably suggest the 7 series...with the same words of caution. I'm not a big LS fan, simply because they don't make me want to drive it like the 7 series does. But, since we're talking about the GS...my vote would certainly be cast for the Lexus. It begs to be driven, just like the BMW's. It has the roominess that a family of four would require, the speed and "fun factor" of a sports car, but comes with the reliability and rock-solid reputation that Lexus has built its name and loyal owners upon. BMW can't honestly say the same. Ask a few honest BMW owners about how satisfied they've been with their purchase after they've had it for a few years. In my experience, you'll find a common thread in their answer: "I love to drive it...it's tons of fun and handles like a dream. I just wouldn't suggest keeping it beyond its warranty period, though".
That should tell the tale right there. Both cars are fine, world-class automobiles. Arguably two of the finest luxury sport sedans produced. It's just a matter of how high your tolerance level is for annoyances and the prospect of less than trouble-free driving with the BMW. Personally, I love to drive the BMW's. However, there's not one parked in my garage right now because of these caveats mentioned above.
I bought the GS400...and I'd do the very same thing if I had it to do over again. Just my .02 worth.
All the best,

The original poster (mikhailw) never commented again so let's not go further with this worthless comparison.

My computer was down, so I couldn't reply. I want to thank everybody who replied to my original post. I like V12 in BMW, but reliability is very poor. Since nobody in LEXUS group prefers to have BMW, I decided that I rather have Lexus reliability than BMW's looks/driving.
Thanks
