Well, I just traded my 2002 Acura TL Type S for a new 2003 GS300 SE - Black on Black. As soon as I saw the GS300 SE, I knew it was what I was looking for. Although I liked my Acura, there were far too many phantom rattles that I had to contend with and at almost 40K miles, I decided if I was going to "move up", it was now or never.
Prior to buying the Lexus, I did quite a bit of research including BMW 3, 5 Series, G35 and Cadillac CTS. I also test drove many others. I sit here smiling because I bought the car that truly struck a cord with me - everything from looks, fit & finish, handling and, of course, the Lexus quality.
Well, my only decision to make before I take delivery tomorrow is whether to purchase the Lexus extended warranty at $1550 for 100K/6 years - zero deductable. Given that I'll keep this car for many years and don't want any unexpected repair costs to conflict with tuition payments, I will probably go with it.

Dan, first off, welcome to the board and congrats on the new ride. Your question is difficult to answer due to the fact that we don't know what the factory warranty is. It is necessary to know the amount of miles/years you get for $1500 plus in order to determine whether it's worhtwhile or not. I would probably try to negotiate that into the price if I were the one buying the cat. The reason I say this is that I boght a 1994 GS 300 from a guy who had full service records on the car and bought the extended warranty for about $1K on a CPO car that he bought in 1995. He had about $500 in regular maintenance done and the car was serviced for one recall and one TSB during his 7 years of ownership. He did not get his money's worth out of the warranty. Since I have owned the car, I have spent $550 on service items (the extended warranty does not add resale value in most cases because it is non-transferable). He sells the car to me and Lexus makes a profit (again) on an 8 year old car. About $200 of the $550 were on the starter, but at the time that failed, the car was 8 1/.2 years old. If the regular warranty is decent, I wouldn't bother with the extra coverage. You are filling the dealer's pockets or buying his new boat unless you have serious problems after the factory warranty expires (which is doubtful).

where did you get your warranty from for that price and that long of period meaning 100,00 miles 6 years. I paid 1500 for a two year 24,000 mile enhanced extended warranty.
