How many miles are on your GS? Did you get a CEL?

ok I wrote up a whole deal as if it were an engine knock that you're talking about. But then it hit me!

Check your ball joints. Thats most likely what the sound you're hearing; a pop. Could also be a strut, but most likely its the ball joint. Very notorious on the GS. Check out our FAQ/DIY sticky:

Was it a knock or a chug? lol. Happened to me last summer coming back from the beach, fuel pump went out. It was a scary moment because I thought my transmission was going, and in the middle of traffic no less. Pulled off and got gas and all was well. Dropped it off the next day at Lexus and a fuel pressure test confirmed it. So, if you were just driving a long then all of a sudden, bam! that was probably it.
