Xpel Project on RMM Bumper
Jawnthen and I custom cut our own Xpel for our RMM bumpers. You can see how much gloss the Xpel adds to the bumper. It even appears shinier than the non-protected section on the left side of this picture.

3rd time's the charm (Ready for CARSON)
Here's the area around the intake ducts. This is the 3rd iteration and the fit is now pretty good. Now I see why Xpel charges so much for their pre-cut pieces. You can waste a lot of expensive material trying to get the fit this precise.

Template
This is the template that was created from cutting a raw stock roll of 3M film, the same material used by Xpel. The material was cut using a knife blade and a very steady hand. The material was cut against the plastic shown in the background.

before we put the xpel on....
clean up the bumper a bit
clockwise from top left: green spot putty on all pits and scratches, primer coats and wet sanding, final spray of metallic paint and clear coats, finsihed job ready for xpel

Is it any wonder that you've since lowered your car to "Synergy" levels?

just ask and you shall receive. I know where we can get cans mixed locally. For everyone else, look for an automotive paint supply store and ask if they can mix paint and put it in spray cans.
Both Jawnthen and I have spray canned several pieces, with surprisingly good results.
The Duplicolor code is T191 Ultra Silver. It IS NOT the factory color but very close. We actually matched our parts better than what the body shops did when the parts painted the first time.
Explaining in detail what we did will take more than just a couple of lines, but basically after priming and sealing, we sprayed 2-3 color coats and then 3 coats of clear. Then wet sand progressively with 600, 1500 & 2000 paper and hand buff with Meguiars or 3M scratch remover. No rubbing compound or machine buffing was done.
Those who want to check it out, we'll both be at the Carson meet this Saturday.
