Default Can someone confirm how the auto door lock/unlock works?

I have a '01 GS300 I bought about 2 months ago for my son. I'm not in the car that much but the other day I noticed that it doesn't auto unlock when you put the car in park. It seems to lock all the doors when you put the car in drive so I would have thought it would unlock when it goes into park.

Can someone confirm that the '01 GS will do that? If so, is there a way to set it so that it unlocks automatically when putting it into park?

It's a setting you can ask the dealer to change - in this iteration it's called C-Best. Or you may be able to do it via some of the cheaper techstream devices and cables you can search up threads about
Link to all the settings.

I stumbled across that page when I was doing some searching but it didn't make sense to me. I guess I can reach out to my Lexus indie and see if he has the software to do this and/or look into the techstream devices.

But, ultimately you're saying that it is normal for the GS to lock the doors when going into drive but not unlocking the doors when going back to park? That just seems odd to me since every other car I've had that auto locks in drive will unlock in park....including my LS.

Correct. That's also the way my LS works, btw. It locks when rolling and does NOT unlock the doors when putting into park. My LS door (individually) unlocks when you pull the interior handle without having to flip the lock switch.

I prefer this... pull up and park somewhere and sometimes there might be someone nearby that looks shady when I take the car out of gear... I don't want my doors unlocking then.

Yep, sure enough on page 3 from the link you sent it shows that functionality is turned off by default. Can't believe there isn't a way that we can turn that on/off without having to pay for a dealer to do it.

I don't think my GS is unlocking the door when you pull the handle. I'll have to double check that though.

Maybe someone set both of my LS to have it auto unlock in park but I do get your idea that you may not always want to unlock when going to park. That's probably okay if the door auto unlocks by using the interior door handle. I'll have to double check that on both my Lexus.

Yeah, it's my LS that does that for sure in front driver and passenger. GS has been sold and gone for many years and don't recall.

Well, I confirmed what my GS is doing. After it auto locks the doors, on the drivers door I open the handle and it will unlock. On any of the other 3 doors it will not unlock when opening from inside. Anyone have any suggestions as to why using the interior door handle that it wouldn't unlock the door?

Confirmed this morning that my LS doesn't unlock when going back into park but it does unlock the door from the interior handles. It does it with all doors. So, don't know why or what's going on with the GS that it won't unlock with the interior handles.

Bringing this back to the top in case someone has a suggestion on how I can get the doors to unlock when the interior door handle is pulled.

I hate to say this, but I think you're probably not going to find that feature. It's on the (higher trim and newer) LS, but don't think it exists on the 2GS. Just doesn't work that way; it's a mechanical feature which means it isn't something that's going to be set via C-BEST.

I was hoping for that to not be the case but thanks.
