Default Aux/Bluetooth in 1998 GS300

I tried using the search function and didn't find much for 1998-2000 GSs. Just 2001+. Is there a way to keep the stock head unit and add an aux cord or bluetooth? A grom kit or something. I really am trying to avoid having to splice and solder into the CD changer harness. I just bought my car a few days ago and it only has 86,000 miles. I'd like to keep it pretty stock/clean. Thanks for the help!

There have been several posts about splicing into the cassette or the CD feed to derive an aux input.

I suggest that you do what I did. I have a small bluetooth unit which sits in the central compartment and is powered by the cigar lighter. This tunes to a spare FM fequency which can be assigned to a preset. The unit will receive bluetooth (eg from an iPhone) or has a wired aux input.

This works ever so well. There are several available on e-Bay or Amazon for under $20.

FM transmitter sound quality is trash though.

I would suggest either one of the hardwired DIYs, or what I did which is a Grom Audio module (there are other brands) that is plug and play, retains full OEM functions, and adds aux, USB, iPod, and Bluetooth depending on how you spec your kit.

I use a rechargable bluetooth cassette tape w/my stock headunit. Sound quality is pretty good. Other than a little skipping here and there, it performs well enough for me, for now.

This is a fairly simple mod if you know how to solder. You tap into the radio circuit and find a clear station with no broadcast on it. As soon as you plug the headphone jack into the phone or MP3 player of some kind then it will cut out all static noise.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...-headunit.html

Instead of adding a female plug as suggested, I'd just solder the wires on with a headphone extension and run it to the center console. Just get a long enough cord to do this.
You can also get a bluetooth receiver and connect it to your phone for music and calling. Most of them have audio control feature for volume/play/fast foward / rewind thru your phone's music library.
These intopic ones work pretty well. The only down side is having to charge them every 2-3 days.

If you want to get fancy and add USB and bluetooth, these modules are cheap and widely available on ebay.
Just find power source to connect to on the same radio circuit board. And connect the L/R/Ground signals to the board instead of a headphone extension.
You'll need a dremel to make some facia trimming. I've done a ton of these locally here in Taiwan.

I am pretty sure this solution will work for your car as well http://madsock.co.za/hack-your-lexus-gs300-2006-2012-and-add-a-3-5mm-aux-audio-input/
If you can remove the radio and send me a pic of the rear and side, I can confirm. Email link on page.

^ There's already a DIY about doing this, for the correct model years.

I have a 2000.7 GS300 European spec.

I got a donor connector from the junkyard to change the pins in the CD change connctor on the amplifier side.
I still can change it back to stock.
