2nd gen GS - Stereo from newer car (03-05) into older car (99)?
I am wondering if anyone has tried this?
Put a stereo head unit from a later 2nd gen GS into an older 2nd gen car.
The reason to do this is that the LCD display on the older model Pioneer is very likely to go dead.
(mine has, and others too, I think)
Salvage head units can be had on ebay for very reasonable cost.
Pioneer probably found out about the poor lifetime issue and corrected it on the model change.
The Pioneer stereo head unit from 2nd generation GS300 (98-02) is very similar to the Pioneer head unit in later 2nd gen (03-05).
They are definitely different, but very similar.
The front panel is almost identical, with just a single button on the right side changed to add some feature.
The back connectors are a little different, but most of the signals might be compatible if an adapter was made?
The chassis shape, and mounts look identical.
