Default I want to modify my gs400

Hello everyone
I recently bought a used 1999 gs400 which I love by the way and wanted to ask if someone can help me as I want to make it more faster but don't know how to.
A lot of friends have suggested me to do an engine swap with a 2JZ GTE but it's going to cost a lot and frankly I don't have a job at the moment. Can someone please help me what can I do to make my car more responsive and fast.
Thank you.

put a supra lsd in it and a racing torque converter... it will be a lot quicker.

Maintain it. Make sure all fluids are fresh. Replace all vacuum lines. Replace O2/coolant temp sensors. Clean injectors. Replace fuel filter. Clean MAF sensor. Run Seafoam through it.

Then, make sure your driveshaft, suspension springs/dampers/bushings, and motor/transmission mounts are in good condition. They’re probably old and worn, which means when you hit the gas, all those bits move instead of your car and you lose power.

These cars would do 0-60 in at least 5.7s when new. Mine does 6.7 from a dig because all those chassis parts I mentioned are worn and you can feel the chassis shift when you stomp it. However she still wins freeway pulls like she should so I know the engine is healthy.

After the maintenance is done, look into headers, a BFI, and a manual transmission.

As mentioned above do all the maintenance items, the 1UZ motor is bullet proof if taken car of properly. There are not a lot of low budget performance upgrade parts for the GS4xx. If you can find the long discontinued SRT intake get it or you can do the BFI intake setup. There are also PPE headers available which, along with a good exhaust system will give you some added HP.

I Love all the suggestions of high dollar mods to someone without a job.

Honestly I don't get this tread, how does one come in and pretty much say, "Help me go faster for free".

One way or another we all eventually learn that speed will never be free.

If you have no job, do nothing. Modifiying a car when you have no money is the dumbest possible idea. And I'm telling you this to be nice, not mean. There are no cheap modifications that will make your GS400 go faster, period. Even just to dip your toe in, an intake and cheap axle-back exhaust that will net you maybe 5-10hp on a good day will run you $5-600, which is enough to buy all new balljoints, an actual important thing to do. Or a set of performance tires, which will increase actual performance a great deal more than any suspension or engine parts as a first modification.
Since you have a GS400, there's no cheap way to go significantly faster. If you avoid forced induction, you will at best be marginally quicker, but still slower than actual contemporary sport sedans.
