Default heater core

I bought a new heater core for my 2000 Lexus rx 300 because i wasn't getting any heat in the cabin. my servos seem to be working fine.. Both pipes going into the core get hot but the core itself is cold... Can I change just the core and not the pipes?? looks like the easier way out..

Me personally I would've flushed my coolant system and changed my thermostat 1st b4 thinking about a heater core. Trying to get behind the dashboard ain't pretty or easy
