fix

This is a great fix for the issue of the gasket possibly getting pinched or not fully seated when bolting covers back down, I like to use just a little RTV on my finger and just rub a very think layer of it over one side of the gasket and seat that side into position in the valve cover and let it sit, it will get tacky enough to do the same job and since you're doing this job, you should already have some RTV around for sealing the corners of the outside of the covers to ensure no further leaks from the gasket or covers. You just need to be sure not to get any gobs inside the cover (only on gasket and outside the cover are safe for RTV) that may get into your engine after bolting it back down and running car.
