The valve cover gasket isn't to hard to do. It just sucks to lean over the car. Also when you get the gasket get some indian head gasket shellac. It will help make sure that its stays in place so it doesn't get pinched.

The IS300 and GS300 have the same engine (2JZ). This video explains everything. Watch the video, rewind, slo-mo, rinse and repeat. You will get it.

I would do it myself but im too worried about making a mistake.

Update: Ok, so I took it to another mechanic trying to get a better deal, he told me that I should take it to a transmission specialist as he can not guarentee anything. He also told me he wouldent drive it at all as it can damage the car, im sure its not good for the car but its been like this a few mounths, seems to drive pretty fine, very minor stuttering when shifting but only sometimes, so it should be ok right?

Any chance a transmission specialist could do this for under 500 bucks, replacing the solenoid, I finally got the part.

I do feel better taking it to a transmission specialist, I was horribly worried if I spent all this money at a mechanic and he replaced the solenoid id still be stuck with the same problem, I already paid another mechanic 500 bucks to do a drain and fill and that dident fix the problem.

I still havent found a transmission shop that would do this, I just have the solenoid in my possession.

However, I am less concerned about my supposedly cracked valve cover gasket as its not leaking any oil, though i do not drive much, but I am setting this to a priority as its kill me know my transmission is loosing life.

Worse case scenario, if I do have to get a new or rebuilt transmission, whats the cheapest I could do this for? I already spent 7k and if I have to spend close to that just to get a new transmission I feel like i lost a car.

Brand new transmission is $6,000. No idea how much a rebuilt would cost.

New Question: Ok, so I have the solenoid, I have the solenoid, I found a place that repaired toyotas but they told me to take it to lexus. Closest lexus dealership is 2 hours away. Ironically... they transferred me to a place that repairs hondas, they will install it for 475$. They said its 121$ to get the diagnostics done first, but either way there is 'never any guarantee' but its up to me weather i want them to just install it, or to do diagnostics on it first.

so im kind of confused, should i pay for the diagnostic, or just pay for them to install it. im assuming if they install it the problem with call away and i dont need to waste money on the diagnostics as i already know what the problem is...
