I've been watching the board for awhile and this is a great group. Well, I've finally committed to buying the GS400 (99 or 2000, Black or Silver), and I would appreciate your comments. Here are the current options in the Southeast...
1. 2000 GS400, Platinum, Black, 36k, w/o Navigation, dealer price is $30,000.
2. 2000 GS400, Black, 46k, w/o NAV, premium stereo, 17" sport wheels, xenon, dealer price is $26,000.
So, would you spend extra to have the Platinum edition, or buy #2 and make modifications?
The second car is out of state and the dealer has already dropped the price from $28k. He says that he can't go any lower. The Platinum is local and I may try to do the "end of the month" negotiation on Thursday for a lower price.
The other option is to keep waiting for the right car to show up as a private sale in order to avoid the state taxes. Thanks again.

Are they both Lexus dealers? If so then take #2 (non-Platnum). Lexus dealer has certified for 3 year / 100,000 miles guarantee. If they are both non-Lexus dealer, then I said the asking price is a little high. I would wait for the next opportunity. Or you should negotiate for #1 at $27K and #2 at $23K.
There is not much different between the Platnum and non-Platnum. Go to this site

for information about the 2000 GS400.

There are different levels of Platinum editions.
My mother has a 2000 Platinum edition....she got it with OEM HIDs w/ auto leveling feature (+ yellow fogs), and seat warmers....plus all those stuff mentioned Lextacy400:
Preforated leather seat
Platinum floor mats
Black Pearl badges
Birds Eye maple wood
6 spoke 16 inch wheels
plus...Michelin Pilot Sport tires
You gotta inspect the Platinum edition more.....does it have HIDs? Seat Warmers? Ask for a list from the seller.
Then ask yourself if you are willing to shell out $4K more for #1 w/ 10K less miles and extras.....OR get #2 and spend $4K on wheels, HID kit, suspension, etc.....
Good luck.

For some reason a Platinum Series car rates higher (pricewise) from Edmunds. I don't know why there's really nothing overly special about it...maybe limited quantity?
