Default Lexus GS400 - Radiator Replacement Brand?

Starting to think about replacing my stock radiator around 159k miles as it's looking rather brittle and brown these days.

I've looked some at radiator replacements, and I've found the DENSO 221-3121 readily available (assumedly OEM), However, several reviews state that it 1) has suspect quality, 2) a different radiator cap from stock, and 3) imperfect fitment (alignment of electric cooling fans?).

What types of radiators have people used here? I can get a genuine Lexus one (#16400-46570) for around $300, but if all that gets me is the same DENSO model above, no point in bothering. Since the original lasted nearly 19 years and 160k miles... I'm not opposed to getting a stock one again.

Thanks in advance!

I used the Denso 221-3121 got mine from RockAuto. It came with it's own Radiator cap I believe. I also replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses at the same time.

Most of the threads that I have seen about radiator replacements recommend using a Denso radiator. I haven't heard of any issues with them

I replaced the radiator on my GS300 a few months back with Denso 221-3121. I am fairly certain the stock one is a Denso as well. No fitment problem.

While you're at it, you should replace your hoses, thermostat, thermostat housing & gasket. Doesn't cost that much more and takes only 10-15 minutes.

Has any one sourced the foam making that goes around the radiator?

You can just use aluminum tape like you would use for HVAC to seal off the sides of the radiator if the foam is missing

Home depot has the foam tape. Its in the water heater or weather stripping and insulation section. It holds up really nice just like factory.

The Rock Auto denso will work, replace the thermostat at the same time.

Anyone using a Mishimoto aluminum radiator?

Unless something has changed Mishimoto does not make an aluminum radiator for the 2GS. If you want one you have to buy the Supra radiator and have someone relocate (reweld) the mounting brackets and tabs for it to fit

I put in a Denso replacement last year in my GS4. The original (20 year old) rad developed a hairline crack along the top and was pushing coolant out. The stock radiator cap didn't seem to fit the new rad so I used the one that came with the replacement rad. It has been about eight months now and have had no issues. I have my scangauge reading coolant temperature and it pretty much stays steady around 85deg C.

I think the is300 mishimoto radiator fit for the 2gs. You would need to run a separate tranny cooler though.

I got these from Amazon when I replaced the radiator.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011CXIPO6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07__o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011CXIPO6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07__o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works really good and fits perfectly.
