98 gs300 valve cover
Anyone have any idea what this grayish type sludge is? It was coming through passenger side valve cover to the elbow that’s leads to the intake

normal sludge. looks like it's been using cheap gas and cheap conventional oil all its life. the 2 valve covers are vented to relieve crankcase pressure. the passenger side cover is a 90° turn to a hose venting into the intake tube. the driver side uses a pcv valve to vent into the throttle body after the plate.
I suggest cleaning it off, replacing the PCV, cleaning out your intake tube, maf, throttle body and as much of the intake as you're capable of servicing. change the oil and try to use better quality oil and fuel to lessen the chance of it happening again

when reinstalling the 90 degree after cleaning is it supposed to sit lose and add the rtv to hold it in place? Or is it supposed to be a tight fit?

should be a tight fit and not need rtv. I believe it uses a rubber grommet. most likely the same rubber grommet the PCV uses. check in with your local parts store/Toyota dealer. it can't. be more than a few bucks

I have tired 4 different rubber grommets like the pcv but none fit for the 90 degree pass through nothing has worked I have looked everywhere about getting it to sit tightly in the hole cannot find anything any ideas?

I never yanked my elbow out of the cover. looking at your pics looks like there wasn't a grommet there unlike the driver side (usa) of the engine. if that's the case maybe you wallowed out the hole when you removed it? point is mine doesn't leak. it's not a huge deal. grab some JB weld from the parts store and just slather it around the little elbow then. as long as it's in there and connected. to the hose going to the intake pipe before the TB it should be fine. I dunno what else to tell you on this one chief.

I helped a friend with this same problem, we went to a Advance Auto Parts and the people behind the counter are helpless. In the isle with the HELP replacement parts such as door handles, powersteering caps and such you will see a GM style replacement brake booster check valve rubber grommet for around $5. This part fit perfect and had the correct lip to fit in the valve cover like the old brittle oem one did. No problems afterwards and its been two years with that part installed.
