Default What Bulb is needed for Gear Selector/Shifter

Can anyone advise on what bulb(s) are needed to illuminate the center console gear selector? Part Number?
Mine has burnt out.
Also if anyone knows of a good place to source this bulb it would also be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Now curious... is it one gear that's not displaying, or all gears...?

Concern would be that the bulb is soldered, vs. removable.

If it's removable, the best resource would be Lexus... even if they charge $15 for the bulb, you know it'll fit.

Believe this equates to the climate cluster... Lexus changed the bulb (smaller), yet if you buy from them, it includes a spacer to make it fit. Went through that exercise, yet when just searched the original part number, then ordered the super-ceding part, it came with bulb, spacer, and light sleeve, to fit properly.

Next best source would be a pick-and-pull... yet pull all the bulbs you can find... we do, and when the 20yr bulbs burns out, we have a bunch to go back to.

99% sure its a #74 bulb with a green rubber condom on it. Available everywhere. Swap the condom over to the new bulb and you're good to go.

Getting to its pretty easy.

This post says #37 fits better. It also has some instructions. I searched "shifter bulb" in the 2GS forum to find it.

Thanks Debonair,
I am going to order these and see what happens...

not to pricey at all, and if they do not work I can still switch out some of the other bulbs within the car.

Thanks for the info sbagdon. Appreciate it.
to answer your question ALL of the lights are out on the gear selector. P D R 3 2 1, all are out.
If the Ebay bulbs do not work I will head over to the Lexus Parts department and order one.

Let us know what happens with those bulbs. I'm down to order some if they fit. The old color is just so outdated that new LEDs would look pretty awesome. Wish we could LED swap our clusters :/

What year is your GS? My '98 doesn't light up the shift selector, and when I pull the shifter trim, there doesn't appear to be a lead for a light... did they offer a lit gear selector in the '98 GS4? Or did someone pull the trim, the light popped out, and no one ever put the light back in? Thx.

Got the bulb I ordered installed.
I will go back in and remove the green sleeve off of it, and just go with the white coloring.
While in there I switched out most of the bulbs in the vehicle to white....
N1ck I like the key ring light... mine must be burnt out or the 98 doesn't have it one... I will work on getting that bulb switched out as well.

Sbagdon mine is also a 98 and it does in fact have the gear selector bulb. I attached a picture.

Thank you!!! When it's above single-digits, see what's broken, and order a new bulb. Thanks!!!

There's only one bulb in the shifter console, it uses a clear plastic to distribute the light all the way across the entire shifter range.
If you plan on going LED, it's a T-5. Get one with multiple LED on them that faces 3 sides so you can get better coverage

Got almost all the bulbs upgraded to LEDs except the vanity mirrors... Also took a minute and switched out the Key ring / ignition light bulb thanks to N1ck...( I have a few more pics to add but Club Lex site is giving me problems uploading pictures, it stops at 90% upload and wont do anything)

Key Ring and gear selector done... I am going to go back in and remove the green sleeve off of the gear selector bulb... go all white...

License plate bulbs done, and finally got the trunk taillight housing swapped out...

Those round trunk lenses seem to fade differently... swapped ours out for used/replacements, and upgraded to the later tail lights, with the short turn signals.

Yet the plate light is what really stands out... nice job.
