Default Replace the engine or not

Hello, I'm new to this site, I have an 1998 gs300 with 300+ miles on it, but the problem is that it'll turnover but won't crank. Anyone ever had this problem lmk. By the way it has been in the shop for about a week now, no codes no engine light, mechanic doesn't know what to do from there.

Need to verify what your're saying to better help you out.. It can't "turn over" without cranking. So its either cranking and wont start, or no crank and no start. I think your're saying its cranking (thus turning over) which really are terms for the same thing as long as you hear the engine rotating, but not running. It's a simple matter of checking base timing and compression to know if the engine is in need of work to start. If the timing is on, and there is compression, it certainly does not need an engine. There is a reason it's not getting fuel or spark or both. Like a crank sensor. These are basics for no-start diag. I agree, take it to another shop if they can't find out why it won't start. If they have found that compression is low and are recommending an engine, they need to tell you if its in need of rings or a issue with the valve train and can be fixed with a head job. Doesn't sound like they are willing to take the steps needed to give you a real run down.

Yeah it's turning over but not running, I believe they're not taking the time to look at it, that's why I'm taking it to someone else.

You mentioned it has been in the shop for a week, what was it running like before it stopped? If it cranks that means the battery is fine, so you'll have to look at either fuel or spark from there. It could be the fuel pump is not providing enough pressure. Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key? Spray some starting fluid in the intake if it runs for a while then quits then it's a fuel issue. Go back to the last time it was running and the symptoms and that will help.

Even at 300k, if it was running good and makes no bad sounds when cranking, keeping it simple is the way to go. Spray starting fluid in the intake tube, reseal it swiftly, and crank it over. If it fires you look at fueling issues. If no fire then look at ignition and at least verify spark at a couple locations.

Is this the group having decaying capacitors in the ECU?
