Default Upper control arms

Hey, here's my experience with upper control arms. I've gone through a set of Moog R-series and Raybestos brand in about 20-months each. Yeah, I know I should have bought OEM, but at $658CDN each I thought I'd chance the aftermarket. I'm not too surprised by the Raybestos (All they had at the time) but am disappointed with the Moog lasting no longer. Anyone else had similar experience?

Moog is a hit or miss. The same part can be manufactured in different parts of the world and that does make a difference in quality. I have Moog inner tie rods which were "Made in Japan" and I have not had any problems with those but for the rest of the front suspension I have tried a few different brands.

Currently I have installed:

MEVOTECH CMS86104
MEVOTECH CMS86105

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...trol+arm,10401

I really do like the premium Mevotech brand of front suspension parts plus I like the greaseable fitting. I also have all 4 premium Mevotech lower control arms and those are great quality replacement parts too.

The only OEM front suspension part I have are the oem lower ball joints but everything so far has been great with the aftermarket parts.

I have Mevotech upper control arms too. I've ordered those from Rockauto. Cheaper than Moog.

Also I've replaced radius arms(Mevotech), LBJs(Moog problem solver), steering rack bushings(generic polyurethane kind from ebay), outer tie rods(Beck/Arnley they are actually 555 tie rods made in Japan in B&A box), sway bar bushings(generic polyurethane kind from ebay) and sway bar end links(Quick Steer Moog's lesser product line) so far... After replacing all of those parts at once and then I had an alignment. My car rides so much better and smoother now. Took care of the popping/clunking noises also. I think the noise was mostly coming from radius arms since their bushings were shot. Radius arms were throwing off the alignment pretty bad too. It's night and day difference. That's my budget setup without going with Lexus OEM parts. Saved a lot of money.

I recently learned that Moog makes basically two lines for their products. They have the CK or K Series line aka "The Problem Solver" and they have the R or RK Series line. The CK and K are Moog's premium products and are the same product. So if you see a "CK or a "K" in the product number just know that it is the same premium product. The CK/K line is supposed to be a better than OEM product while the R/RK Series line is a more budget friendly option. The warranty is different too. CK/K have a limited lifetime warranty and the R/RK has a 3 year warranty. I have listed below a link to the page where I read up on this.

I'm most likely going with those Mevotech's too. They may or may not be built any better than the rest of the Chinese crap, but at least with the greasable fitting, the ball joint is unlikely to wear out if you keep it greased. Not sure about the bushings.

The only other part I see on Rock Auto that is interesting is Beck Arnely, in case they happen to be Made in Japan. But there's no way to know without buying them.

How long have you guys had the Mevotechs installed?

$571 from Lexus is preposterous. Original part for anyone curious:

I installed the Mevotech UCAs with the blue bushings and greasable ball joint over the weekend. I'm impressed. Both bushings are much stiffer than the originals, which may have been worn, but they looked OK visually. Steering is much tighter now, but I couldn't say how much is because of the UCAs versus lower ball joints, which I did at the same time.

Are there any updates regarding how long the Mevotech Supreme UCAs CMS86104 / CMS86105 will last?

I've had great results from Mevotech parts from RockAuto. Just sharing that because I have found Moog to be over priced junk lately. I use to use Moog on my old American muscle cars. But they really aren't good for imports. Just never got things right IMO. Haven't had a Mevotech part fail yet on many vehicles I've overhauled the steering/suspension on. For the price and what RockAuto offers, Mevotech is one of the preferred brands for me now days.
