Just had to post what a difference it makes after you clean the ac filter.
It's amazing what kind of stuff gets stuck in that thing (and could have made it through the vent). Wish I would have take a before and after pics. Anyone living either where it's dusty, or where you have a ton of trees with those anoying small leaves, I recommend you open up the glove compartment, and take it out.
Never realized how cold and cleaner the ac air could be. Definitely worth the time and little effort. Another great thing I learned here on the ClubLexus site.
Thanks.

I am gonna pick a new one up from the dealer tomorrow. I noticed a funny smell every time I turned on the AC, so i looked at the filter, it had lots of dust and pine needles in it. I tried to shop around at local parts stores and online, but I couldn't find any, so I'll be spending the $50 the lexus dealer wants for it.

I did the same sometime ago. But do not go to the delater..instead head to Home Depot and pick up a good quality filter...cut it to size and install. No big deal...and you will get a better filter for less than 1/3 of the price

I went to home depot also, I never thought about cutting one to size. Is the dealer's filter crap? What about the "Carbon" filtering the Lexus one has to make the air smell like daisys?

guru,
when you open your glove compartment, there is a rectangular plastic piece that can be removed by sliding it up. ( not on the glove compartment cover.. but on the back part (black plastic). remove that.... then way inside... it might help to use a small flashlight to see it... but you can also just feel around. there will be two round small ****-like plastic things (again in black plastic).... grasp that, and pull straight out toward you. amaze yourself by how much that little piece of filter paper has trapped in all those years it has been there...
hope it helps...
