Smile New GS300 spotted in LA

Thats right boys,
Its here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife's best friend called me from the freeway and said she spotted two(white, and seafoam green) new GS300's traveling together this morning. .It was stop and go traffic and i said are you sure it says GS300?
She said i am 3 feet from it and yes it is a GS300. Here is her opinions( she had over 75K on her 99 Gs300 before some one totaled it 3 weeks ago) The front was sleek and sexy sorta of like a cross between the new SC430 and some of the new sleek Chrysler front ends. The back was a dissapointment. Reminded her of a Avalon. She loves the 2nd gen GS styling and wasn't that thrilled w/ the new one. But as i thought they were not going to release the new one for a while, this is interesting........
Unfortuneatly no camera avail for a pic.

FYI she is looking for a replacement GS300 99 or newer prefers under 50k miles and clean most colors except gold or red.

Anyone got one for sale in so Cal?

Best regards

Pearly

Default New GS

I think she may have seen the new Toyota Solara. It has the SC430 front look. I dont believe the GS models are out just yet at least not until june of 2004. I dont think Lexus will release a new body without continous advertising similar to what we saw and read about the RX before it was available.

I don't think she saw the new Solara. The new Solara only resembles SC430 in the rear and it definitely doesn't remind me of an Avalon.

That said, I don't think the next-gen GS will be tested on the road this early either. Not until somewhen into the next year as alwilliams said.

Could be someone who stole the GS badges...
But two of them? Hmm...interesting...

Alwilliams,
Did you read my post? She was 3 feet behind it!!! clearly reading "GS300" on the back. there was the token "L" in the grill as well. If it is not goming until june you would think it would have had some type of camo on it. Wish i could have seen it my self.

Maybe, but Lexus has always been pretty good about hiding their new models right until the release date (or auto show debut). For some reason, I doubt Lexus would be driving around unmasked GS prototypes in the middle of LA traffic.

And I'd think that the prototypes are developed in Japan.

Actually, you tend to see many pre-release autos roaming the streets of LA (specifically the South Bay)...It is feasible, but given the Lexus track record on these things, I would highly doubt that it was. Also, an easy way to tell is if they have the Manufacturer's license plate.

Most likely it was a heavily modified (body) GS3 that can easily look very different to many people from stock.

interesting, i don't think there will be gs300 anymore, specially in the new style. it should be gs330. plus, usually when you see a new car running on the street, in the prototype phase, you shouldn't see the badges? they usually tend to debage the car or cover up the badges.

I would highly doubt that it was the new GS. For these reasons:

1) Like other people said it would of said GS3XX not 300.
2) Even if Lexus was testing prototypes they would be highly masked with no company logos, like u see in various spy photos.
3) Nobody saw what the RX330 looked like, until a few weeks before it was officially unveiled, and the same will happen with the new GS.
4) If these protypes of the GS were in Cali in the middle of traffic then we would already have seen them as spy photos in car magazines.

Are you guys sure the new GS will have the 3.3l V6?

The current GS300 and RX300 do not share the same engine - the 1MZ V6 is used more in Toyota/Lexus Front-wheel drive vehicles (ES300, Camry, Avalon), while the 2JZ Inline 6 is used in RWD vehicles (Supra, GS300, SC300, IS300), so I wouldn't expect them to do share the RX engine with the new GS.

of course they won't share the same engine but in japan toyota has already said that the new aristo would use a 3.3l v6 rather than teh current 3.0l i6, and i believe the is300 later will get 3.3l v6 too. so it only makes sense to see gs330 coming

and reason is in japan the emission law is tightened up even more, so almost all i6 are ditched now due to their emission, including the famous toyota i6 on the supra and the nissan i6 on the skyline
