I have read reports on some aftermarket warranty companies, and AM Best gave 1 a A- rating which is pretty good. Have you guys had any good/bad experiences with aftermarket companies/dealer warranties? How much should it cost if the 98 gs4 is at 60k miles?

Whatever you do, don't buy your extended warranty from "Warranty Gold" they are going out of business and i'm having such a hard time get my payment back from them. Pay top dollar for the Dealer Warranty!
One reason, I don't believe Lexus/Toyota will go out of business any time soon, but these little p.o.s. aftermarket extended warranty company all has its underwriting by another insurance company, which will and could go out of business if some HUGE catastrophy event happens (9/11), and will get a court injunction or file chapter 11 to walk away from all its obligation to pay for the repair cost.
That's all i have to say, really, for your peace of mind, don't buy any extended warranty if it's not from Lexus Dealer.
Good luck!

I sent in my paperwork to get a refund on my extended warranty with Warranty Gold (we sold the car, we never even filed a claim), after speaking with a manager and getting the form notarized and following all the proper procedures, I stil have not received anything except a bunch of deceptive e-mails referring me to the insurer, based in the Cayman Islands, who is insolvent and in court. I purchased the warranty through the link here on Club Lexus, so I notified the administrator. I am glad to see they no longer advertise on here. I will be shocked if I ever get my refund.

That's allot of money to pay for a warranty for a car that on top of the reliability ratings. I bought my used 99 GS4 about 5 months ago and did a ton a research and went with warrantybynet. I haven't had to file any claims yet, but I got a 6yr/100k warranty for about $1,100 which I didn't think was too bad. I do agree that you are taking a little more risk on an aftermarket warranty so it depends upon your risk tolerence.

The only way I would consider an extended warranty is through the manufacturer. In addition to the "Warranty Gold" fiasco, I have heard too many war stories in battling with third party companies to get what should be a "covered" repair paid. When I purchased my 2003, GS300, SportsDesign, I bought the Lexus 7 year, 100K Platinum plan for $1500.

HI. I went to warrantybytel and i was quoted 2100. They told me it is because the car is out of the manufacturers warranty. I was told that that is why the price is higher

I purchased a 99 Lexus GS 300 1 year ago, it had 70000 miles, so I bought a warranty from 1sourceautowarranty.com for 2100 with a 50.00 ded. it is an exclusionary warranty which covers almost everything. It will last until 2009 or 137500 miles. They pay with a credit card over the phone, kinda a pain but o'wellin the past month I have had to rebuild the starter $200.00, replace door lock actuator $500 and a/c compressor $1200.00. I am pretty close to what I paid for the warranty now and out of pocket it was 175.00, not too bad...
