Default Gs300 auto trans compatibility

I’m wondering if any other transmission will work for my 98 Lexus gs300. I found a 2000 and 2002 auto trans for 350 each to replace my leaking transmission at the moment. The front input shaft seal has leaked out again after swapping motors so I need to swap it out ASAP. I know some transmissions came with manual mode and wa a wondering if this would not make it work in my 98 that doesn’t have manual mode. I also notice on the newer transmissionS the sensor that’s on the shift linkage is different from mines they can be swapped out thoe.

From my understanding any A650E transmission would be an option for you. The "Manual mode" is merely the steering wheel control not a physical transmission difference.

Unfortunately transmissions aren't that simple. You would have to stay with a trans from your model. The GS400/430 have internal differences from the 300. They have different torque converters, different valving etc. Even an IS300 has an A650e trans, and it has a different bell housing you couldn't even bolt up. Many have different extension housings, early (98-2000) transmissions on the GS have different module connectors than 01-05. Can't just grab and A650e.

I stand corrected, thank you for the detailed input. Sounds like the OP should be okay with the 2000 trans they located since the car currently is a 98 and both are old style for a 300.
