Question My '99 GS300 has been sitting for over a year

I parked my '99 GS300 until I could replace the throttle body. Finally after 15 months I've got around to replacing it. I've charged the battery but I cannot start the car. The motor does not turnover. All interior lights come on but nothing under the hood. What should I start inspecting or replacing? Fuses? Reset the ECU? Spark plugs?

I am a novice mechanic but want to learn and fix it myself.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

"Cannot start" is too vague.

When turning the key, does the engine crank but not fire? Does it fire, but not stay running?

With nothing else to go on, I'd say the fuel in the tank probably turned to crap after 15 months, especially if you didn't treat it with anything.

As Mike says, a bit more info required. It could be as straightforward as the immobiliser if the battery has been flat or changed.

The car does not turn over at all. All interior electrical work, but nothing when I turn the key.

Are you confident that the battery is charged? A bad battery won't take/hold a charge. Was this battery sitting in the unused car without a battery tender on it for the entirety/majority of the 15 months? After you removed the charger (let battery sit for at least a couple of hours) what is the voltage reading on the battery? What happens when you turn the ignition to try and start the car? Does it click or even try to engage the starter from what you can hear? It could be the starter, but first I'd make sure the battery is good. Although I hate to recommend it, if you can, get a jump start from a good battery / running vehicle to ensure you're getting enough amps to engage the starter. If that doesn't work, I'd be looking at other possibilities. Check your fuse first for the starter, and then consider maybe the starter is bad. Immobilizer would only come into play if the engine is cranking/turning over but not starting up.

Not surprising that the battery is too weak to crank after 15 months without running. Give the battery a charge and go from there. Be sure to get the red / black terminals matched with the correct charger wires. Red = +, Black = -.
