Car won't reverse
I have a 2001 gs430 and for the past few days reverse doesn't work. It will go a couple feet and then stop and wont budge. Drives fine otherwise. I had front and rear brakes replaced recently. I assume it is a transmission issue but I can't get it into the shop until Monday. I went to autozone to have a test on it and it has some catalytic convertor issues but nothing for the transmission. Is this still potentially a transmission issue, and if so, any ideas what the issue is? I'm going to have it looked at on Monday unless there are any other options I can try until then.

Start by checking the fluid level with the car running. If nothing is on the stick, or it's low, fill to the marks and then try driving it. If this works, get your leak(s) fixed and drain/fill your fluid.

That was the starting symptom's with m 01 GS430, once the engine transmission warmed it run fine. I changed my transmission with a low mileage unit. It turned out to be a bad torque convertor. I did a drain and fill with filter change and that did not help.
As mentioned above check and replace the transmission fluid to see if that helps.
Next time when it refuses to got into reverse, put the car in P and rev the engine about 2500-3000 rpms for about 5 to 10 seconds and let it go back to normal idle the see if it catches reverse gear. That is what I used to do to get mine going.
The new trans runs flawless.
