Default 2002 gs 430

hey new user/lexus owner here and I recently bought a 2002 GS 430 with 242,000 miles. I'm not afraid of any problems as it is my 2nd car, and I have time and a little money for repairs (I even have another motor I can put in if it comes to that). The previous owner said it had a oil leak from bad valve cover gaskets and when I bought it I immediately had new ones put in along with an oil change (note: mechanic said the pistons weren't worn and looked strong). But my problem is the car is still smoking from the hood while idling! My mechanic said to give it 2 weeks before panicking about the smoking but I don't see it improving! Could it be something else???? It's only been about a week and I already love this car! She's strong! Please any advice would go a million miles for me as I've never owned a lexus but I've always admired this particular body style.....

Most likely the excess oil from the previous leaks burning off, hope that is all it is. Try cleaning the engine to see if you got all the leaks fixed.

yea, and it may take a few long drives before any surface oil completely burns off; especially if it's pooled in places.
But yea, a good wash should help. Just be mindful of any electronics/sensors and cover them as best as possible before you start the wash.
