I'm thinking of buying a 98GS300 with 89kmiles. What can i expect to go wrong with a high mile GS?
The SC forums has a post of how many miles everyone has put on the engine, but i didn't find anything about mileage with the GS?
I see that the GS can handle better, but as a daily driver, i plan to have this car for a long time. With 89,000miles on a 98 GS300, what can I expect to replace? and how many miles do you guys have on your GS? Please don't reply if it's 70,000 or lower<most cars don't have problems under that mileage!
Thanks in advance!

With good service record on the 98 GS3, I would say it will last you over 200K. I've seen some of the 1st gen GS with over 250K and it's still run strong. At 89K you may need to get water pump and timing belt done( Lexus recomendation).

Try to get your high mileage GS3 with 90,000 service done. 90,000 miles service includes timing belt and water pump and it is expensive (around $1,400). Try to get a high mileage one with clean Carfax, and full service records. My previous Lexus (LS4) didn't have a single problem when I traded it at 96K miles. I would expect GS3 to be as reliable as other Lexus if the vehicle is well maintained by the previous owner.

I got 86k on my 98 gs300 and have only had one or two problems. They weren't anything major though. I have however had other problems that did not affect the car driving. I have replaced the windshield, armrest, headlights due to fogging. If you buy the gs make sure you check the headlights for moisture. My headlights are hid so they are about 1200 a piece. Good luck on your gs. I hope to be selling mine in about 6 months.

I have 135k miles on my 98 GS400, and as long as you keep up the maintainence, these cars go forever. The only things that i have ever done to my GS besides Lexus recommended maintainence are tires, brakes, battery, and replace a few tail light bulbs. Obviously it gets the normal timing belt, water pump, spark plus, and all fluid and filter changes regularly. I've never had any other problems, the GS is one of the most reliable vehicles on the market! Don't let miles bother you one bit as long as all scheduled maintainence is up to date, and you'll be a happy camper for well over 250k miles!
Hope this helps.

See if you can get the vin # and take it to your local Lexus dealer, ask them to search service records and it will show all dealer done maintinence. As some guys have said, 90,000 mile service is crucial, water pump, timing belt and make sure they replace your front oil seals. Spend the money, it's not worth the risk,
I have 96,000 miles on my GS and 182,000 on my ES and both are still running great!

I like the idea! But I read somewhere on this forum that Statistically speaking, Lexus Owner, especially GS's, drive their Lex more than EVERYONE in the lexury catagory (MB, BMW, Jag, Audi, etc.) OH yeah, the insurance industry rates our car as a "bad risk", since it's on the road sooo much.... (M-Sunday) HAHAHAH We love to drive our car... what can one expect???

Seriously though the idea of keeping this car for a very long time is very appealing. A friend of mine got a 67 Pontiac GTO when he was 16 and now he is over 30 and he still has the car. He keeps upgrading the engine and it is strictly a summer car - that too only on Sundays or beautiful days and I just find that so appealing and want to do the same with my GS!
P.S. By the way I have not forgotten about mailing that article on my car to you. I will try to do that this week. It has been a very hectic couple of weeks for me at work lately.
