Thumbs down 2JZ leaking oil / don’t know where

Hey guys,

I recently got my car serviced and mechanic said its leaking oil, they didn’t say where bc they would have had to spend a lot of time opening the cover up and checking.

Images are attached (Don’t know if they will help tho) . I want to get the cheapest fix so I can just order the parts and get one of my mechanics to fix it.

What would I need to buy to fix it? I have heard its valve cover gasket.

Im at 150,000kms on the odo

You need valve cover gaskets. I had the same thing.

Yup, I had the same thing. Except mine is WAY worse, oil all the way back on the transmission, all down the side of the block, inside the spark plug wells. It was mess, previous owner must have left it that way for years. Brakleen works good for getting oil and such off, but if you're gonna take as much oil as what I had off, you're gonna need a case of that stuff. Take care of the valve cover gaskets first, then get the block cleaned because if you don't, it'll smoke and smell absolutely disgusting.

That’s not too bad I suppose. I’ll probably do spark plugs while I’m at it.
Are there any parts that commonly break off/need to be replaced when taking off all the vacuum hoses, throttle body, y-pipe etc?

Watch for the spark plug coil connectors, those get SUPER brittle over time. I did my sparkplugs and those connectors fell right apart. I also had my throttle body connector broken, had to replace that (previous owner taped it on!).

There are a couple of vacuum hoses that are close to the engine that get brittle over time. I cracked a couple when removing them and they caused vacuum leak. Also, you might want to have a few of the valve cover bolts on hand just in case. Top of the bolt came off on mine even before it was torqued to specs and it doesn't even need that much torque (around 8lbs). Don't overtighten your valve cover because you may squish your gasket too much and you don't get a tight seal. From the looks of your picture, that might have been the case.

Yeah, definitely watch out with those hoses and connectors. I got lucky and my hoses didn't crack off. However, connectors do like to crack.

When I first read that 8 ft-lbs was the recommended torquing spec, I thought they were nuts, until I saw what it looks like with 45 ft-lbs (thanks previous owner) and yeah, definitely do what they recommend.
