Default 2002 GS 430 headlights

hey guys I'm looking to replace my headlight assembly on my lexus and everywhere I shop says that their products aren't HID compatible. Since I'm not replacing the lamps themselves would it be OK to just buy the set anyway? Thanks.

Is there an issue with your current headlights? Or were you wanting to get a fancier set with halos and LED’s and such? The most poplar and definitely most Gangsta feature of your 2GS, would be to go with some custom “Retro” headlights. Your going to remove your OEM headlights. Then open em up, replace the original reflector style main-beam and replace it with a much more effective method, called a Projector beam unit. This style can focus the light to a much more effective pattern and can handle high and low functions. Since our cars have a separate home for the high beams, most people will build a quad projector setup know as “the Super Gangsta” package. This is one of the coolest upgrades you can do to a GS. It can be very expensive if you want to do some custom etched lenses. Or if you add demon eyes and Panamara RBGD shrouds. On Morimoto FX-R 3” projectors. You will quickly get into a 4 digit build. So do plenty of research to find the best option In your budget. Make sure to post your pics to the thread for Retro Headlights

You need to completely rewire the headlights to downgrade to non-HID.

You can get HID projectors, like the Morimoto Mini D2S 8.0, They are really high quality, use the same bulb and ballast as the car came with, they are fairly easy to install and have have an incredible beam pattern. They are about $150 for the pair, if u just used a min H1 or something in the high beam spot, you would have a really nice set of custom retro HID projector headlights for around $200

The Mini H1 is on version 8.0. Mini D2S is 5.0. Also, I wouldn't recommend HIDs for high beams because of how long it takes for them to warm up to maximum brightness. LEDs would be more suitable there.

Regardless, the OP has yet to indicate any interest in a retrofit.

The mini d2s projector does not use the same bulb our cars come with. Our cars use a d2r bulb which is basically a d2s bulb with a glare shield on the glass. Could you use a d2r bulb in a d2s projector? Yes. Is it ideal? No.

Don’t the D2S and D2R use the same plug? So if u installed the Mini D2S Projector, the factory ballast and harness could connect to a D2S bulb without needing to make any other changes on that part of it. It seems like the OP was a one hit wonder anyway, posted his question and bounced. Maybe this will be helpful to someone else down the road??

Hey guys just to add since looking at the replies no i wasn't looking for a retro fit in particular. I just wanted to replace the entire headlight assembly since one of the headlights has a hole in it. I didn't really want to mod anything since the hid is the better option plus I don't really want to start tearing at the original wiring possibly damaging something beyond repair. If you guys know of any place that sells a set at a decent price (under $500US) I'd be extremely indebted to you. Thanks for the help!

If your just after an OEM style replacement for your older HID lights your best bet is a local wrecking yard, either a pull em yourself option or one that dismantles the vehicle and had the parts waiting in their warehouse. U can also find them on eBay for a little bit of a premium, even car.part.com. The aftermarket replacements are usually about changing the styling and those are mainly halogen bulbs. There is a company called Interstate Auto Parts in my area. They sell inexpensive Chinease copies of OEM parts that would have some new HID headlights and their website is certifit.com
