Guys I'm very curious to know what sound system I have in my car. I didnt pay attention when i bought my car. So here i'm hoping someone can help me find out or educate me a little. My car is a 2002 GS300 without Navigation system nor ML sound. I'm thinking my car came with nakamichi sound system, but i might be wrong. I heard from somewhere and someone said that the stock system can be pioneer or nakamichi. Thanks

I'm pretty sure when ML Sound was added to the Lexus lineup they dropped the Nakamichi option.

Many of the head units look visually similar, but the optional HU's (Nak, ML) have a label on the front of them to identify the option.

I'll look for some pictures later, couldn't find many in a quick search.

This page has some distant pictures (I don't know anything about them, just came up in a google) of the two options.

oh i missed the info. no, nakamichi and ML don't mix. from 98 to 00, pioneer was the base system, and naka is add on upgrade. from 01+, i THINK the stock system doesn't change, and ML is the new upgrade instead of naka

So saying, since my HU is not equipped with ML, then most likely my sound system is Pionneer. Its weird tho, because i'm looking at my Head Unit, and i dont find any "nakamichi" nor "pioneer" label. So im still confused. I hope i can find an answer soon.

If it DOESN't say Nakamichi on it, then it's a Pioneer... Pioneer is not labeled externally.

EDIT - here's a picture of mine (Premium sound, Pioneer). Not sure if it has changed much from 98 - 02, but you can see the labeling.

I also have 02 GS3, with the non-ML system. Its definitely Pioneer and not Nakamichi, it says Lexus Premium sound system like in the pic above. My father had the Nakamichi in his RX, and its much more powerful than mine.
