So it fires up and runs for a few seconds? Or it just starts to cough and sputter? Is there any other symptoms? Running long enough to get a DTC?
The trick to replacing broken plugs is to purchase just the replacement shells, or pigtails if you have to and then instead of cutting the old one off, just get a small flat screw driver and you can remove the retaining clip, which is usually a different colored piece in the end of the plug, and then release each individual terminal so the factory metal wire terminal can the be inserted into the new shell. Often times the aftermarket terminals aren’t identical and require special crispers to attach them, a lot of work, and the. Original
mines are almost always in Perfect and will work great in the new plug.
I will find a better photo, showing this a little better.

Is it a GS300 or GS400? How was it running before you did this work?
I understand what you mean about exposed wire, u can see I. That photo where these wires had damaged insulation on them, I have just been slipping some heat shrink on any damaged wires and patching things together that way. It seems like splices and soldiering wires can add resistance to the circuit and sometimes causing it’s own problem. But the wiring and terminals are all getting really brittle in these cars.
