Hello all
I'm looking for a cheap car to buy that will last until the chip issue is fixed and car prices come back down to a realistic level. I have always loved this model but the mileage is scaring me off. $2600 seems to be a little bit too much though due to the high miles. I always find wisdom in the collective knowledge and personal exp of the community. Should I investigate this car further, or run away. I drive about 20-30K per year.

I would definitely go look at it and see what the condition of the undercarage is since it's an Ontario car. If that car was in bc, it would be sold to the first person to show up, which I hope would be me. With that being said, my cousin has a 98 gs400 that he daily drives with 410kms. It drives just as nice as my 01 gs430 with 240km

If the unibody is not rotting out I'd buy it.

I don't think the price is bad if it's running strong. It's just the market right now. Everyone is asking high for garbage even. It's high mileage, so don't complain about repairs/maintenance as they come up. Trans can go out today or tomorrow etc. But it get's you into a v8 GS for low cost. As the other said, if it's rusty, there is no value left in it. If it's clean, there is hope. I see Lexus's from this era at and over that millage often. My coworker's IS300 is over 300k miles (500+ kilo). And there is absolutely no issues or reason to think it's going down anytime soon.

I'd pass on this one. With how used up this vehicle is, you'll likely be out more money tending to mechanical and cosmetic repairs than what you would with any potential depreciation on something newer, nicer, and more desirable.
Most of these 2GS's have reached the age and mileage where the purchase decision should not be economic-minded, rather emotional.
