p0500 2001 Gs300
Hello to all, to get to the point my 2001 gs300 has the code p0500. The problem for me is my transmission won't shift into 5/OD(The transmission works perfectly fine aside from not shifting into OD). After searching for the cause of my transmission issue P0500 made sense I guess. Oh btw no abs light , vsc works and so does the speedo. Also tonight I was cruising with my scan tool plugged in and my speedo was showing 45mph but my scan tool wasn't showing any vehicle speed. So for clarity the only code I get is for p0500, abs is working.

Test your input and output speed sensors on the transmission and the wiring. They are simple 2 wire sensors. Use an ohm meter to check for continuity internally on the two pins. Resistance should be similar on both as they are the same sensors. If one reads "O.L." or "Infinite", it is bad and needs replaced. The wiring is easy. With key on, just pin into the connectors on the volt meter setting. If you get a reading, you have power and ground. I forget if you'll see 12v or a 5 v reference, but either means wiring is fine. If you don't get a reading, inspect the wiring up through the engine bay looking for damage. Now the real way to test them is with a lab scope back pinned into the connectors, but normally people don't have access to that. You can however have continuity and perfectly fin wiring and still have an issue that only a lab-scope can see though. It is most likely that the wiring is the issue unless something came apart internally and actually hit the tip of one of the two sensors. You may want to pull them out and look at the tips for damage. But they are very pretty tough and don't fail often.

Work has been really busy plus the weather here hasn't been the best. But for clarity you're referring to the harness the vss ties into behinds the glovebox? I couldn't find an example of someone having the same issue as me so google hasn't been too helpful. I did find a wiring diagram tho.

Problem solved. One of the vss in the transmission was bad. I checked the resistance on both and they read the same as the new one so I just replaced the sensor that looked the worst. My car shift into OD like normal and cruise control works.
