I was looking at purchasing another Lexus GS for myself. I found a great price on a 2000 GS4 and it had 24K miles, but it had a salvage title. I was wandering if Lexus manufacturers warranties are voided because its on the salvage title?

Walk away from any deal involving salvage title.

many reputable car dealers won't even go near a car with salvage title. Stay away...turn around, path, follow path, gate, open gate close gate, run run run, last ferry at 8:00.

Well....it all depends if you know the seller well enough. My father's buddy is a certified mechanic and body shop owner. He buys insurance vehicles, rebuilds them, and sells them.....NOT all are salvaged.
I must admit, I purchased a salvaged 96 Integra LS sedan in January 1997 from him for $11K..it had less than 2K miles on it. I also actually saw the car in its damaged state...alot of body panel damage....no frame or engine damage, and its passed alignment and an independent 3rd-party mechanic inspection. Today, the car still runs perfectly.....and has over 105K miles now. The great thing is that if there's a problem with the car, I can take it back to him....most times its free of charge. LOL!!
My situation is ideal. Yours may not be. I would ask for pics when it was damaged. Also check if the car passes alignment. And take your mechanic to inspect it. Finally, use your best judgement.
PS...my GS is NOT salvaged. LOL!!!

Ballin, unless you are buying this car to part out, dont do it! You will lose in the end.
Think about it this way.... if the insurance company saw it necessary to total the vehicle, the damage would be enough for me to walk away. It will never be good as factory....food for thought...

I bought a salvage titled truck last year, did some research and found out the reason. It was a theft recovery. Check it our before you turn it down. I was once a car dealer and I know that there a some good buys out there on salvage vehicles.

As stated by some members, a salvage car isnt always a bad decision. You just need to find out exactly what was done to the vehicle. Sometimes cars get stolen and they strip the panels, take out the headlights, seats, radio, sometimes the engine...but obviously all of those can be replaced, okay so its no longer "factory" but if it is put back together in a professional manner I dont see why it would be a bad buy, but if the car was in a wreck, and frame was rewelded and drive train work had to be done.. thats a big no no
so conclusion: do your homework.

Make sure its not a flood repair!
Overall i tend to agree, stay away from salvage vehicles. Even if you do ok with the vehicle, YOU will have problems reselling the vehicle at a later date.

Some questions you might have already asked but just in case you haven't...
Are you borrowing $$ from a bank to buy it? From what I have read in KBB is that they won't even rate a salvage vehicle's value. And how will your insurance cover it?
