Question with front ABS sensor and light?
My son has a 2001 GS300 that broke the front driver's lower ball joint the other day. I got a new set from RockAuto and put them on. I didn't realize I need to be more careful with the ABS sensor and take it off first. It's possible that the ball joint failure could have caused a sensor failure as well because I had to drag it up on a flat bed trailer to get it home. Either way, I then got the ABS warning on the dashboard. Bought a set of front sensors off eBay and hoping they will be good enough to turn the light off. I found a post the other day that suggested to test them and you should get between 150 - 170 ohms out of it. I tested the new ones I got and they registered at about 155 ohms. Tonight I went to replace my driver's side and tested it before taking it off and I couldn't get it to read anything. I went ahead and replaced the driver's front sensor. I then went to replace the passenger side and that one read 167 ohms so I just clipped it back together and didn't replace it figuring I'll leave well enough alone if it's registering good. However, I'm still getting the ABS light on the dash. I disconnected the negative side of the batter for about 10 minutes while I cleaned up but that didn't do any good.
Is there something I need to do like go up to a parts store to use a code reader to clear it? Should the light go away instantly if all the sensors are good or does it take a little bit of drive time to get it to register?
