Default Ignition Coils Replacement

I haven’t posted in a long time because I’ve been enjoying my other toys, but I do have a question about ignition coils. My valve covers are leaking badly after switching to full synthetic, so it’s time to seal everything up. I’m planning on replacing the gaskets, wires, spark plugs, clips, and coil on boots while I’m there, but I’ve never read about the ignition coils going bad on this generation (similar to the transmission solenoids on the 2001 plus models). I can get Denso or NGK coils for around $260, but I don’t want to replace if they aren’t required. Car has 178k miles.

Has anyone actually experienced bad ignition coils or was forced to replace them?

Haven't seen coil issues on my 20 y.o. GS300 with 266 KMiles.
But the entire valley of spark plugs on this engine is very brittle after so many years of heat exposure.
All harnesses, connectors, clips, wire guides / holders fell apart after removal.
I spent more time rebuilding them than replacing valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and high tension wires.

Thank you. I see this side of the forum is dead now. I guess owners have moved on to something better. I’ve decided to keep my coils; won’t replace due to the excellent build quality.

I have a base 2000 gold I picked up in December, 95k with service records. All needed work was done as required. Even the struts were replaced.. i need to replace at least one door lock actuator. The batteries in the key fobs were dead. It was always garaged, so paint is very good. The radiator is beginning to turn green so I will be doing that and coolant lines. I will be replacing the nav with a Pioneer. I only drive about 2k/yr, soI plan on keeping this a long time. .Ball joints and timing belt service are the kind of things I can do myself. As soon as it warms up a tad I will be doing fluid changes. Our DD is electric and when I drive the GS I really miss the regenerative braking. The GS is a pleasant change from my Mazda Speed. I enjoy tinkering with well designed cars.
cheers, Ann
