Cam Adjusters

My 2007 GS350 makes a very short roaring sound sometimes when it is started (usually when it’s cold). The car has over 200,000 miles. My mechanic thinks it may be the cam adjusters - apparently they don’t get oil at the instant of starting sometimes, which creates the roar (which goes away as soon as enough oil gets to the cam adjusters and happens in half a second). I’ve been told it’s not doing any damage to the engine, and could go for as much as 40,000 miles before it becomes loud and persistent enough to fix (by replacing the cam adjusters). Just wonder if there are any other solutions to this issue.

Most common issues are the cam gears themselves, but those have been upgraded from a factory recall. I would make sure yours has the updated cam gears. I have also heard of the cam gear phaser solenoid getting clogged. So you might want to maybe experiment by remvoing it and cleaning the solenoid itself. How often do you change your oil? Having delayed oil changes can cause these issues.
The GS350 likes to have the oil changed early then most cars.
