The original, and this photoshop, is one of the two pics I'm talking about. It looks great from this angle. How about one of the "frumpy" rear and lights and see if you can make that look good too. How about it GSTRANCE?!?

I'm curious if you GS guys liked the (RADICAL) new ES (2002+) design when it first came out and if not, did it ever grow on you?
The first thing I thought of when I saw this new GS was "Maxima". I don't like it, but it may grow on me. I hated the 2002+ ES and the BMW 745 when they first came out, but now I love them both. I hate the new BMW 5-series though.
It just seems that RADICAL is good, but this new GS really isn't radical. It's like derivative and hodge-podge. We'll see!

I tried to take my time to comment on my feelings on this body style...trying to take it in a little bit. Heres my take on it, I dont necessarily dislike the car, but it doesnt give me the same feelings that I had when the 98 body style first came out. When I saw the TV commercials of my body style when they first came out, I was in love with the car.....I was like, I gotta have one of those cars. I dont think that any car that costs as much as a new GS, or similar class car, should be a car that has to grow on you.....you gotta love it to pay that much for it...im just not loving it at the moment. I think I will stick to my blown GS for now.

September 1997: Memories of excitement...
Compare and contrast.... feel like the same excitement? From the September 1997 launch of the all new 2nd generation GS (and Shakespeare) :
Distant thunder, cold as stone,
a V8 screams down from its throne.
one by one, each car succumbs.
Something wicked this way comes.
Naught-to-sixty in 5.7 seconds: Once a figment of the
imagination, now a fixture of intimidation. All courtesy of
the 300-horsepower, 32-valve V8 which seethes within
this, the fiercest automatic sedan in the world.
The new GS
Faster. Sleeker. Meaner.
What excitement I felt seeing that car back then... not this time.

What would you change/add to the new GS 2006 ?
So, what would you change / add ? EXTERIOR / INTERIOR !
Some facts
- The new model looks good, but NOT at our expectations ! Especially after we've seen that muscular front view of the LF-S! it looks pretty simple, nothing to impress you at a first look ! it does not show a REVOLUTIONARY design ! not even close to one !
- Where are the gadgets / new stuff - like - DVD AUDIO -like Acura TL, turn signal mirrors - like all euro cars , panoramic roof - like MB, Parktronik ,Line passing alarm, big brakes - 15"brembo - like Acura TL,etc Other than AWD , 6-SPEED SEQUENTIAL, LED TAILIGHTS, INTELLIGENT KEY - what other new improvements can you list ? i think the current LS430 is MUCH BETTER equipped !
-With record-breaking 2003 annual sales, Lexus retained its crown as the nation's No. 1 selling luxury brand for the fourth consecutive year. The automaker today reported total year-end sales of 259,755, up 11.0 percent over last year's record-breaking number - SO ? if money is not a problem, where is the REAL final product ?
-where is the performance here ? 300 hp for a v8 2006 ? ACURA TL SPEC A CONCEPT - v6 with over 300hp ! INFINITI M45 2005/NISSAN FUGA 340 hp and a lot of gadgets and performance things ! I don't need 500 hp like a E55 or M5, BUT 300 looks pretty old number, where is the evolution of such a great engine ?
-should we wait for the next generation LS ? INSPIRED by the more aggressive LF-S ?

Oh, I am undecided on the new GS. I would rather see it in person. But the center console has to go.

The new GS is really growing on me. The more I look at the photos the more the car stands out...in my eyes that is. Also, if you really compare the GS with the Maxima side by side, there's little resemblance. People are exaggerating on how the GS looked like the Max, but it's not. The only similarity is the rear end, looking from the side view. Other than that, everything else is different, the front and rear lights, shades, contour, etc. I guarantee you that the car would look much, much nicer in person. Plus the current GS looks much more luxurious, in and out. Hope this car will be on display at the Toronto Auto Show.
