There's real HP numbers, advertising HP numbers and HP numbers for insurance purposes. Only the real HP [actual performance] matter, IMO. Unless you are an armchair drag racer.

I posted this in another thread, but since this topic is more related to this, here's what I have to say. Alot of people have been talking alot about the performance aspect of the new GS, and I have a few thoughts on it. Could it be possible the reason they have not updated the engine and increased HP is due to the fact that they want to maintain a high resale value for their cars ? Think about it. If they changed the body style and engine specs say every 4 years, by the time a lease came back in, a new model with upgraded performance would be out. That lease return would then become an "absolete" pre-owned vehicle and thus the value would drop, costing Lexus money. By keeping the model the same from 1998-2005, they not only have saved money by investing into new technology sooner, but again they keep the resale value high for their customers and for themselves. The fact that the newly redesigned 2006 GS has not changed substantially only reinforces that point. So far as we know, the engines will remain the same except for a small increase in #'s for the V6. Styling has changed, although not radically as one may expect for a model that has gone unchanged for 7 years. By introducing the new GS as slightly different (evolutionary), they keep their pre-owned market VERY healthy as well as those who only want the newest model. I am sure 2 or 3 years after the new model comes out, the engine will upgrade and some minor design changes will be made. It's not that Lexus does not have the technology to present a V8 producing 350+ HP, it is just that they "don't have to" come out with it just yet, so they won't. If you look closely at the competition, they are all in the same power ballpark right now anyway. No need to shock the world with revolutionary design/performance right now when it will only devalue their pre-owned market. Just my .02

The E500 may have 300hp also but when you start comparing to the 545i, its a different story. When Lexus starts pushing the performance envelope, matching the competition in terms of power is an important part of it. Does 25hp make or break a deal? Of course not, but it makes a difference. If you compare the 325i to the 330i you can really feel it (about 30hp difference). For myself, I was hoping the GS could outperform the BMW at a fraction of the price, that is what made the 2nd gen GS400 so awesome. BMW stepped up to the challenge and created a more powerful and better performing car, Lexus answer wasn't as strong as I hoped. I'm looking to get a new car in a year or two and the GS430 is one of my top choices on my list but I could be leaning to the other side now. We are all speculating now, we'll see what Lexus does in the next year.

I'm disappointed that not only have the HP numbers not increased, but they aren't even going to offer AWD with the GS430!
Damnit, I don't want an Audi or a Mercedes! I want a 300+ HP AWD Japanese luxury sedan!

Lets say they come out with 325-330hp, big deal? Is it going to make you say OK I WILL buy this car now that it has 325hp rather then 300hp.

Issue/Problem
Now I don't want to hear the life speech, but IMO, part of paying a large sum of money for a luxury car is it to look different, luxurious and original. I have shown the new GS photos to many peers and if I hear that "looks like a Maxima" comment one more time, it can possibly keep me away from this car. I think Lexus executives need to send some hired guns over to kick Nissan's designers asses for blatantly copying the 2nd gen GS, thus making the 3rd gen GS look like a ******* Nissan.
Maybe I have to see it in person, but before I wrecked the GS, it DROVE ME NUTS, when people in my car would say "look another Lexus" and I would turn my head and it's a #$%*(&* Altima or new Maxima.
I see why some Benz owners get so freaking uptight about the looks of the LS 400/430. It now has hit home.
I now wonder if the GS looking like a Maxima will keep prospective buyers away (or help Maxima sales) since they want to look different and not like a Nissan. I think one of the MAIN REASONS WHY the 2nd gen GS was so popular with people, stars, executives was b/c it was original and looked like no other sedan on earth.
That is now lost....(crap)
