Has anyone heard when the new GS will actually be released? It seems to change constantly.
When I was at the NYAIS, the guy who was giving the presentation on the new GS was saying mid Feb to early March of 2005. But, I have also heard people saying we will not see it until April at the earliest.

BMW 545-325hp
A6 4.2 V-8-340hp
E500-302hp
Acura RL-300hp (3.5 V-6) and biggest reason for the bump
G35 sedan-280hp
M45-340hp
Caddy STS-325 HP
Lexus promised to shock the world. I smell 350hp. You heard it here first.

The above posts are for 2005 model cars (the GS will be an 06). To show you WHY they must step it up, back in 1998:
540-282hp
E 430-278hp
A6 didn't offer a V-8, only a weak 200hp V-6
RL offered a weak 210hp V-6
Infiniti had nothing to offer but the Q45, which made 266hp.
Funny but Caddy had the 300hp STS but not really GS competiton and not nearly as quick.
Nothing was CLOSE to the GS in 1998. That is why I retract my previous views and think Lexus MUST enter the HP war and DEFEAT the competiton, not be mid-pack. The GS is the PERFORMANCE Lexus. You can get away with 290hp in the LS (owners really don't care) but where prospective owners DO look at hp numbers.
You can blame this on 2 things.
1. Engine Technology advancing
2. Companies making their cars faster b/c people rather a fast car than one built together better than a Tonka toy.

Good point 1Sick.
The Chrysler 300C's 340 HP should also be noted. Chrysler is giving you this for about $38k loaded.
I think it would be a good idea for Lexus to beat this with about 350 HP as you stated especially since the GS430 should approach $60K loaded. 350 HP would make the GS crazy fast (for a large sedan). 0-60 in 5 sec flat?

The 04 LS430 sprints 0-60 in 5.9 sec with only 290HP V8 despite weighing almost massive 4000 lbs. That's pretty impressive. And like the Lexus's commercial, the LS430 has those dimples at the bottom of the car to make it aerodynamic. (Similar to that of a golf ball)
The new BMW 7 series is nice, but I heard so many people having problems with it with only 5000 miles. I'd say no German or any European Car can beat the reliability of a Lexus no matter how many horsepower you put under the hood.
It looks like the 06 GS power will come from either a 245-horsepower 3.0-liter V6, or the Lexus 4.3-liter V8 with preliminary rating of 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque both wiht 6 speed Auto-trans. I doubt they'll change those specs though.
The 06 GS kinda looks like a Maxima from the rear and an aerodynamic 1st Gen GS from the front.
Just my 2cents

50k 400hp CTS-V
Lincoln LS-V8 has 280hp
S-type V-8 makes about 280hp

Not sure if the new GS is more aerodynamic and how much weight is has (hopefully no weight gain).

It's hard to really tell from computer pics. Feeling the car with your hands for body contours is what really counts.
I do agree that the front looks alot like the 1st generation, the rear is not bad looking to me.
Have 2 questions:
If you don't opt for the Nav system what will the console look like in it's place?
Are the instrument lights the famous white electro illuminicent lighting like on my 1998 SC400??? I love my instrument cluster especially at night.

Sorry if this pic has been posted but I don't remember seeing it here.
This pic gives it a little diff look, makes it look more aggresive, wide body stance. It's starting to grow on me. Very clean lines. Pic Coutesy of Motortrend.com

Motortrend also has a video introducing this new model, pretty good. Click on watch the Lexus video under the small write up at the end. The quicktime version seemed to work better for me clearer.
