1. Lexus GS. The Front end is very dynamic and interesting, the details in the sides are great, I do NOT like how short the trunk is or we LOST the split rear lights. But this is an interesting car to look at.
2. E-class. Classic styling. Beautiful proportions. They really hit the nail in the head with this one. Quite frankly, tied with the GS for #1.
3. M35/45-Nice side profile, front looks like a SUV, rear looks ridiculous. Nice roofline as well.
4. A6, looks to big and long (it is). It is nice looking but a little long in the tooth. Only real difference is the big grill. Othewise a conservative update.
5. STS, really is looking better, still not a fan of the squared front ends, still too big and nothing luxurious about it. I must say Caddy has done a GREAT job making thier cars very distinctive.
6. 5 series. An absolute mess. They destroyed almost all the BMW classic proportions. Overhang is too long, no more crease, the rear is a mess, headlights are nuts. With sales down 50% most people agree.
7. RL, looks EXACTLY like a big Accord. Compared to the rest, nothing luxurious or elegant about this car. Looks like a car designed 10 years ago. The front end looks good and that is all. Cheap proportions.

The funny thing is that it's a BRAND new car in every way- suspension, chassis, engines, technology, it's the next generation A6 but you'd never know it.

MPLexus301 thanks for posting those pics together, it really helps in comparing the styling.

My $0.02 on the styling from worst to best (IMHO):

5 - The new M5 looks best, but it's still just lipstick on a pig. It's still ugly.

A6 - Ugly AND boring - hard to pull off. Too much front overhang and dead straight side lines - ZZZzzzzzz.....

CTS - um, no.

E class - already looking a bit dated. The E55 still looks great though through rims, grill, and extra spoiler and other trim as usual.

GS - it still doesn't do much for me - larger front overhang than today, 'bloated' side panels.

M45 concept - Nice looking car, but maybe too close looking to the G35? Also, the final pics we've seen don't look as nice as this concept.

RL - I still think that with better rims this is gonna look GREAT. I really like the front and the sides. The back is bland, but at least it's not ugly like the 5 series.

So just think if this thing was designed with a little more excitment (minus the grill) how much more appealing it would be.

Question So when is it going to be release?

I don't know if anyone checked http://www.lexus.com/models/gs/index.html recently. Lexus updated their website and will be selling 2005. I thought the next generation 2006 will be available sometimes between March or April 2005 for the 2006 model year. Is Lexus delaying release? Doesn't make sense to produce a 2005 model year for only 6 month. If they do delay release of 2006 I would guess it would be late 2005 (around August-September). What do you guys think?

The GS is easily the best looking car in that group. I don't say that because it's a Lexus, it just is IMO.

I'll attempt to place them in order based on my opinion of OVERALL styling. 1st being the best.

1. Lexus GS (this will have the greatest road presence here; tweek the headlights and you have a perfect car.)
2. Mercedes-Benz E-class (nice classy design, doesn't take crazy chances)

3. Audi A6 - (needs a nose job though)

4. Cadillac STS - A huge improvement over previous model, nice sharp lines)

5. Acura RL - ( too bland but nice nonetheless, again, plays it safe)

6. Infiniti M45 - ( to bad for those taillights; most aggressive of the bunch, pretty nice)

7. BMW 5-series - ( really not that terrible outside of the headlights and some inconsistant lines)

I like all of these designs and wouldn't mind owning any of these. For this class, they better look good!

In the All Japan GT Championship Series, TMC will strive for both the driver’s and team titles by introducing to competing Supras a new 5.2L normally aspirated V8 engine—based on the 4.3-liter V8 engine (3UZ-FE) available on the Celsior and other commercially sold models.

I wonder if this will be an option in the GS or LS?

GS4fun, M35 will offer AWD.

Like the GS, the M will offer AWD only on the V-6 model.

Of all of those cars - the ones that appeal to me most now and those that I belive will age best I've put in the following order:

Appeal to me now:

1.) E-class (the best looking car out in the segment)
2.) M45
3.) GS
4.) A6
5.) 5-series
6.) STS
7.) RL

Those that will age well:

1.) A6 (may be boring - but still classic)
2.) E-class
3.) GS
4.) M45
5.) STS
6.) 5-series
7.) RL

If you're talking about the new A6 then I'm not sure about those rankings. My neighbor has one and I still can't decide about it. As far as aging well - anything as boring as the RL will age well - heck a 90 Legend still looks good today.
