AWD Alternative - Lexus RX400H?
I was reviewing the Lexus Canada site and the photos of the new GS are not as appealing as I was hoping for (maybe they were taking at an akward angle). Maybe it's the GS300 AWD rims that are not to my liking, etc... However there is no doubt that the new GS430 looks awesome with those 18" factory rims and that incredible V8 power!
So I ask you now, why not consider the RX400h if you are looking for a AWD vehicle to get us through these winters? It's coming out this year too and has a more power ful 270 HP enginer and the latest in Hybrid Technology. All the reviews I read about it, is it's fast.
The RX400H could be on par or a little more in price than a loaded GS300 AWD, so even though these are still 2 different vehicles, the RX400h seems cooler now (even if it's not a sports sedan).
Are any of you considering the RX400h? By the way the RX400h also can ride on 18" factory rims!

Agree about the 17 inch rims for the GS300 AWD, they suck, but you CAN get the 18 inchers that come with the GS430 for the 300. As for RX400h, asides from the potential wait list issue, i doubt you would ever make up the $10K+ difference in price in gas savings, over the life of the vehicle. you do get better performance, though, which is a plus.

"The GS300 has 17-inch wheels standard, with eighteens optional, while the GS430 has eighteens.."

We will have to see if that will be an option for the AWD models. It may show on display but we'll have to see until final stats come out. My info shows no 18" option for the AWD model.

i don't mean to get snippy with anyone, it's just that i get accused of passing on false information without a chance to defend my sources. maybe the confusion is that the 18 inchers will be available on the RWD 300 and not the AWD300. Either way, i was glad to see the 18 inch rims available on ANY GS300. And I'm sure Flip's sources are reliable, maybe the answer is 18 inchers only on the RWD version. also, i'd be surprised that they would display the 300 with the 18 inch rims and not have those avail. for the car, especially since the car is so close to production, AND have the text in the blurb be inaccurate?? doubt it. we'll see. Thanks.

I think we all have to agree that 18" rims on the new GS look much better than the 17" rims we have been seeing. I wish Lexus would give us more info a little earlier, so we can confirm all of this.
It is usually tough to get any confirmed info out of Lexus early, since they usually wait until the last minute. Oh well, a little over 1 month to go!
Also if the Avalon can get that new 280HP V6, why no the Lexus GX300 with it's measly new 245HP? I say Lexus has to make this a true sports sedan in their line up and not just another sedan. We will see.

Back the RX400h for a moment. The advertising is a 270 HP V6 will compare to most comparable V8s out there. How can you not resist and be curious about this new hybrid, especially if you are going to shell out equal or more for a GS300 AWD.
I know they are still 2 different beasts in a sense (Sports Sedan vs. Car/Truck combo), however the reason we are getting AWD is to get through horrible snow storms like the one we are having now in the Northeast. I think a RX400h will perform better in the snow compared to the GS and this maybe only due to the height it is off the ground.
On the other hand, I am still a car type of guy, which is why I have to wait to actually get more info on the new GS.
