Also, this Ohio dealer said the ENTIRE first allotment of cars for his region, about 250 cars, will have only the AWD version of the 300.
.
I mentioned this issue in another thread about the M35 AWD. The makers want to push AWD models in northern part of US.
This makes sense for March, but it might be a tougher sell in the middle of August.

Salesman: Sir, this AWD car will handle great in snow (while it is 100F out and the customer is sweating buckets).

Can't imagine chrome would be standard unless it's a delete option. Most folks don't want chrome and some colors don't look worth schit with it.

Unless Lexus changes current policy, factory order is always a possibility but doesn't change the allowable combinations of options. (For instance, I have ML w/o NAV because I ordered it that way and the two were not a mandatory combination in '01.)

As far as prices, remember that it's always "supply and demand" as far as relation to MSRP (which means "manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price") is concerned. That which is much in demand sometimes goes for more than sticker. That which is nailed to the showroom floor goes for much less.................

i am with "doc" on this one ..as much as Lexus is one of the best cars in the world, msrp is merely a starting (selling) point

Of course we all know MSRP is a starting point, but if the MSRP starts lower, it will end lower, all things being equal. Not likely to get a 58k car for 50k, but you could get a 54k car for 50k....you get my drift.

The anxiety about the new GS price has little to do with supply and demand, since demand is sure to be high for at least 6 months. It is about what is the maximum price (except CA where premiums may abound) one would pay for the car, and does one have to get and pay for a lot of options one does not want or need.

Those prices are no joke. I am a big fan of the new GS and I cannot wait for the lease on my current GS3 to be over so I can get the new one (for me, the AWD will be a god send).

But, I hope the prices are a little less than what has been mentioned. Otherwise, I might have to shop a little more than what I was planning.

Chrome was a forced option on 04-05 GS430 due to the car hitting its final years of production and in order to make the car "more appealing" those extra cost options at one time are "included" as the whole package. I doubt they will do this for the upcoming 06 GS430 since it's a fresh new design.

Apparently some guy on that site said that on the NBC Auto Show coverage, they posted an MSRP for the GS300 at $39,500 when they were talking about the car.

I would definitely wait on a more credible source for the MSRP. The original posted prices sound like guesstimates more than anything else.

Fyi, here are the current list numbers for the current GS:

Base: $47975
ML/NAV: $3250
17" chromes: $1915
spoiler: $440
wood wheel: $300

My calculator says $53880........take $1.5k off for no chrome.

Still, we can see that the current model is not out of the ballpark for the mentioned ranges for the 06 if you consider the additional tech (6 spd, adaptive susp, and on like that).
This, in turn, makes those projected prices seem reasonably credible to me, at least for the 430.

But they'll be whatever they are; I just hope they don't hose me too badly when the GT variants come out, since that's likely to be my next car.

Actually it's the other way around! Lexus dealerships get to tell the factory what we want. We do this based on our buyers' feedback. Lexus has even been known to change things based on the "comments" section on a CSI survey from customers!
Here in Southern California we are supposed to get a 70/30 split between RWD and AWD GS300, which I think suits most buyers just fine. This is almost identical to the split we currently get on the RX330 RWD/AWD and Lexus has had no problems selling those. It's our number one selling model nationwide.

Talking Official 2006 GS Base Prices

Your wish is my command........

The GS300 RWD will be $42,900
The GS300 AWD will be $44,850
The GS430 will be $51,125

New Standard features included in base price, but are not limited to:
Heated Leather Seats with Memory
Smart Entry with Push Start Button
In Dash 6 Disc Changer
Projector Type HID Headlamps
Knee Airbags
Wood Steering Wheel and Shift ****
17" Wheels on V6, 18" on V8
0-60 on the GS430 is 5.7 sec!!!!!

VDIM...Vehicle Dynamics Integrated management system is standard on the GS430. It is the MOST advanced active safety system in the world. Besides controlling braking and traction of each wheel - like VSC does - it adjust the AVS suspension and the all new electronic power steering with variable gear ratio steering (VGRS). All these components work together to produce an incredibly seamless stability enhancement system.

Mark Levinson 7.1 Discrete Surround DVD Audio...This optional system features 14 speakers and an 11 channel amplifier to reproduce sound quality like no car audio ever before.

The GS RWD and AWD have an all new V6 engine with the first application of direct fuel injection and dual VVT-i that acts on both intake and exhaust vavles. The result is more power, a wide torque range, and with the 6 speed transmission and other inhancements, a considerable 20% FUEL ECONOMY IMPROVEMENT.

Also for the first time, Intuitive Park Assist incorporates a Steering Sensitive Clearance Sonar, and the Pre-Collision System (PSC) includes active braking.

If you are on a waiting list, I urge you to stay in contact with your local Lexus dealer for color selction/option selection. Tomorrow they are supposed to release the actual packages, availabiltiy/firm pricing. Full brochures will arrive at dealerships on Feb 21.

You can always count on Longo for credible info! You can thank Elizabeth for those Lexus issued preliminary color charts and trim color and style photos from a few months ago of the 06 GS.

Nice. It looks like the price gap between the GS and the M is only about $2000-$3000. Lexus has established enough prestige to command that kind of premium over Infiniti.
