At 58k, a GS430 is going to face some stiff competition against the likes of a fully loaded M45, moderately equipped BMW 545 or loaded M3 and a loaded MB C55 AMG. For a couple of thousand north or south of the GS, there are other models worthy of serious consideration. I like the new GS but at 58K with the same 300hp engine, I’m not so sure. I guess only time will tell how successful Lexus is with the new GS4. For now, I’ll wait on the sideline and enjoy my “paid off” 2nd gen GS4.

I don't know if it's pure speculation. The guy that posted it apparently works at a Lexus dealership in the central region and the prices were sent to the dealership.
So either the prices are correct or the guy is lying.

There was a mention somewhere on here that the GS430 and the GS300AWD models will follow the Acura line of thinking - give it to them fully loaded with no options (maybe NAV in case of the GS300AWD). Again if that's the case, a GS430 with virtually everything that an LS has for 10K less, then it starts to make sense. Since the GS430 is less than 20% of the total GS sales it might make sense for Lexus to throw everything into one model - with that price even the NAV is included and can't be optioned out (think RL again).
One of the reasons the Germans are relatively more expensive is the high amount of customization that is possible - that also costs money. By keeping the models with few configurations Lexus can save some money.
I can hear the salesman now: For just 8K more than the AWD model you can move up to the ultimate GS.

Well, I just got absolute confirmation from a very reliable dealer in Ohio that ALL GS430's will come with everything (no chrome to be found though). This includes the spoiler! I am not happy about that. If you want a GS without a spoiler, you need to get the 300 or 300AWD. Also, this Ohio dealer said the ENTIRE first allotment of cars for his region, about 250 cars, will have only the AWD version of the 300.
No prices yet, but this is not great news for me, since I would probably like the 430 without a spoiler, and not too sure I need NAV package either.
Lastly, full brochures should be out within a week. Let us hear if anybody gets one.

I can understand if it is Acura doing this no-option thing as a way of cost-cutting, given their much limited resources... but Lexus?? Lexus seems to have forgotten that choice is also a form of luxury. Sigh...
