How do you know the GS350 and 460 are going to be available in 15-18 months? Toyota generally releases new powertrains for their cars in the 3rd year of production of a normal 5 year range. The next up on the plate for the GS in North America is the GS450h which is coming Sept 2006 as a 2007 model. We wont see a GS350 or 460 until 2008 in the 2nd half of 2007, why? It's a been a Toyota trend. You obviously are reading the info on the internet as if it was bonded information w/no credibility. Anyone can misconstrue what a manufacture should bring out and what is actually going ot happen.

Well if you look at the popularity and bigger and better sooner is not necessarily better. But because Americans have a greedy mentality (looking at this w/an Economics background), they want bigger because they think it's better. But why let the cat out of the bag right away. This is what Nissan is doing to their line of cars. Releasing all the goods at one time and eventually the market will be flooded with the same product all across the board. Then you have a fad brand line which will later lose it's appeal, excitement and popularity later down the road. Why would Lexus even waste their time to release the GS460 and 350 in the United States now if they can maximize their profit and sales for the GS300 and 430 with the technology and resources they have for it now. Imagine what it will bring later down the road. This is looking at a broad long range plan...not some 15-18 month dream that most people are wishing for. Strategic planning is the key.

If they introduce the GS350 to N.America right now, that will make the 300 hp GS430 obsolete & redundant.
Exactly!

Post Fuel economy

I assume the GS300 will probably have better fuel economy than a GS350. Although not a key factor in this segment, it something to consider. i.e. how often are the extra 50+ hp going to affect your daily drive? If the price of gas keeps creeping up, it may have an impact.

I am no expert but I am not sure a Avalon will be cross-shopped with a GS so it may not directly matter.

I am slightly surprised that Lexus wont run the GS300 and GS350 at the same time, say next year. Would seem to give them more options for pricing and thus, sales.

I totally agree with Flip except I've seen the release schedule which shows the GS450h coming a little sooner in May '06 as a 2007 model. The GS460 is not on the schedule that I saw. This schedule was presented at the recent dealer summit called the fireside chat featuring Denny Clements. He is an excellent spokesperson and has led Lexus and now Toyota USA to the mountaintop.
