Awesome comparo!

I pretty much agree with everything they said about GS.

Their 0-60 time for GS seems very conservative

Their view of the cars interiors pretty much mirror my own from my time at the Chicago Auto Show. The Lexus had by far the easiest interior to figure out.

Ah...someone beats me to it already.

I hope they'd also included the European comepetitors but I guess for now we should be happy that the new GS is good enough to represent the best of Japan.

Edit: The last paragraph says, "This is quite a car. It's the best sport sedan from Japan in its price range. It may even be the best sedan in its class. Nice job, Lexus." Apprarantly if the GS were pitted against the Europeans it should've also fared well enough.

Long live the new king! I can't wait until mine comes (or at least I decide on a color, lol)!

BTW, it's kind of unfair to pit the RL against the GS430 and M45 since its real competitors are the GS300 AWD and M35x, although I'd say that the GS300 AWD would still have won.

Edit: Actually, after reading the review of each car more thoroughly, I'd say it's hard to say which one deserves to be the real winner. It all depends on the qualities you're looking for in a car. For all-out sports, get the M45 Sport. For a good overall package and the best value, get the RL. For the best-finished interior that gives you a true luxury-feel, get the Lexus. That's what I can conclude from this comparison test. There is just no true winner here.

BTW, kudo to the new ML system for getting a perfect 10!!!
The RL doesn't seem far behind but to Infiniti for not providing Edmunds a Bose system for the test. (For that matter, though, I'd like to know how the standard system of the GS scores too.)

Agree with you there.

I thought that their praise and gripes about each car were pretty fair. The M was the best for sport, the GS was the best for luxury, and the RL had a good combo of both. Apparently, Edmunds likes luxury over sport, so the win went to the GS.

However, this statement just baffles me:

"It's the best sport sedan from Japan in its price range."

How can it be the best "sport" sedan, when it ranked dead last among the 3 in sport? Maybe they meant the best "luxury" sedan in its price range.

One thing, the RL should really have been pitted against the GS300 and the M35, not the V8s.

Also, looks like they tested a fully loaded GS430 vs. a bare bone stock M45 Sport. No wonder the GS got better rankings for features, stereo, and ultimately personal preference.

I know I might sound like an Acura RL lover from my constant defending of that car, but between a GS430, M45, and RL, I would have to say my choice would have been either the GS430 or the M45. I would say that is a good testament to the RL for going up against big V8 competition. My real eye to eye compeition is with the GS300 AWD, M35 AWD, and RL. Between those cars I would say my choice not comes between the RL and M35 AWD with the GS300 AWD comping in a close 3rd, until I get to further test out the cars. I kind of find it hard to believe the RL actually came in 2nd amoung those V8 cars it was up against. No matter how much I praise the RL, it it tough to go up against the torquey V8s.

Edmunds.com and Consumer Reports are about the same IMO as far as reviews are concerned.

They are in a different class than Car and Driver, Road & Track, Automobile, and Motor Trend.

It seems like CR and Edmunds likes cars like the Acura TL, Accord, and Toyota Camry.

They cater more towards features and luxury, than real performance.

I am not really surprised that the GS won at Edmunds.com. Like 95% of Lexus buyers, I think it is probably the best choice for semi-enthusiasts.

But, I like the fact that Infiniti is becoming super hard-core with performance, just like BMW.
