i was wondering if the Lexus DVD based navigation had a converter that would allow regular dvds to be played on its systems...
I was curious because I have seen the Nissan 350z's navigation converter for sale....
does anyone know or can help?

Welcome to Clubleuxs. I invite you to read a little about the new GS, since its been discussed. Yes DVDs can be played in it once the parking brake is depressed or the car is in park. We have had people like VVTi come with a override for it in the 2nd gen GS and I am sure an override for the new GS is coming.

was a converter necessary to purchase or does it come like that from the dealer???

Only on the GS300/430 Mark Levinson audio system are you able to play DVD movies on the LCD touch screen. The Navigation DVD drive does not play movies. Since both of these drives do read DVD's it is easy to get confused. The CD audio slot plays DTS Surround Sound DVD movies if you just depress the parking brake. The Navigation DVD drive does not play anything but the Map DVD.

Definitely. The only limitation is watching the DVD while driving. I found that it didn't need to be in Park but the parking brake must be engaged inorder to view the screen. At about 3 MPH the screen switched back to the last task it had been showing. So you can drive 149 MPH in the GS430 with a sound level that will cancel out the wind noise. The DVD just slides into the CD slot on the Audio Head Unit like any other CD. You can of course mix and match DVD's and CD's to your heart's content. I looked at the 10" Subwoofer the other day and It was surprisingly small in the Magnet area and had this boxlike metal structure under the magnet. I was told by our Tech Fernando that this was the latest in speaker design. It has a molded cover but is not really a sealed enclosure and it sits in the center of the parcel shelf. It uses the trunk as the enclosure. The tweeters are strategically placed and the surround sound puts you spatially in the center. The 14 speaker elements give a vivid sound image especially with a digital audio source like a DVD.

As Rockville indicated the DVDs go into the CD Drive 6 Disc Changer and it appears you can have them in any slot.

On my GX470, the DVD Nav player is located under the passenger seat. It is mostly like located there in the GS too. But maybe someone can confirm.
