Default Where did the PCS and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Go?

I was just messin with the build your GS section on Lexus.com and it looks like they pulled the Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control from the available options. I'm wondering if they are going to hold off releasing this (as most car makers have done) until later in the production run?

Maybe it depends on zip code? I just tried it and its still there. Maybe they are changing the site some? The BMW site had 06 BMW 5 info, then took it down, then put it back, now its down to 05 info again. I guess both are updating maybe?

I'm sure it does - but I tried both IL and Northern Calif and could not find it. Very interesting.

That is usually the case on options like this and on a new model. The option selections on the .com site are for reference. Actual availabilty will differ than what's available on the website.

Default PCS an expensive option and varies by region

The reason you will find different packages offerred in the different regions is that dealer commitees in those regions construct the package for the coming model year. They reconvene to add or delete as the market responds to their selections. If you option a GS430 with PCS then you will get into the Modern Luxury LS430 price range so some regions may want more model price point separation. An example has come up on the CL forum recently which is the Intuitive Parking Assist. It is an enhanced version of what has been used on the LS430. This option is only $500 so it doesn't push the GS430 into the Stratosphere of the LS. We expect to see that option here in the East in the Summer because of demand. The West coast already has it in their package. My feeling is that Lexus are expensive cars and if someone can afford to spend that kind of money for a car then they want it with everything. This is why we will often sell the loaded cars of each model and the lesser equipped cars will sit there patiently waiting for a good home.....

Here's to hope that this option will be an add on module and that's why they left the P button and cuts into the bumper.

Regarding the PCS, I wouldn't expect the LS to get that feature until the next major redesign, right?

Default PCS continued...

PCS first arrived on the 2004 LS430 in the Ultra Luxury and Custom Luxury version. In our region the PCS is a Special Order. We sold two last year at our store. It makes the LS close to $73,000.

This is how it works: The Millimeter radar transmitter/receiver is locate behind the grille area beneath the Lexus emblem which is made out a plexiglas but looks like the normal one from a distance. The radar unit is all weather capable like an advanced jet fighter. It constantly scans in front of the car for solid objects of a certain size and shape. If for instance you were driving into a fog bank it would be able to see a stopped truck before you could visually. Now if it calculates that a collision is imminent it will put the suspension into Sport Mode and activate the Brake Assist and tighten the seatbelts. If the seatbelts tighten you are about to crash into something and hopefully you will hit the brakes with the Panic assist and not have nose dive because of the suspension damping. Theoretically you will have less chance of injury because of this feature. If you happen to have the cruise control on then the car would actually hit the brakes and a warning buzzer would sound. The farther you had the cruise unit set for (there are 3 settings) the earlier it would detect that you are closing on the car or object. One of our best Lexus customers Mr. Betts was coming into his driveway at a pretty good speed and as he approached the garage his PCS system cinched up the seatbelts and surprised him. He unwittingly did his own test of the system......

It is of course very difficult to place a value on someone's Life or Death and this technology takes advantage of many of the sensors and computer calculations in the car enviroment. I would like to see its development into a Crash Avoidance System. Cars are getting smarter all of the time but the drivers make the same mistakes again and again....

Wow, thanks for explaining as that really was clear about PCS. I was not totally sure how it worked.
