You know, since I have had the GS,I would always put regular in it.I don't mash the pedal too often,so,I figured it would be fine. Out of the blue, last fall, and only at idle at a light, the car would sometimes idle down to the point of almost stalling although it never did.Anyway, the car was at Lexus for a sensor and a new battery one day and my wife mentioned what the car did.The tech said it saw because we were using regular. I am not convinced of that as I also think the weak battery could cause that also.

From that time on we have been using plus and I actually believe our mpg's went up by a couple points. Below is an interesting article on Octane and MPG.Since the GS is designed to run on premium,it looks like my higher mileage is directly related to that. Maybe I should try premium for a few tank fills and see if it improves further.

The car is meant for Premium Fuel, so why put in anything else? It doesnt make sense to me. I would have bought a KIA if I wanted to be economical on gas. Take care of the car, and it will take care of you.

I use Shell too, they have the best premium gas around. I never use that mid grade crap, you only save like a dollar per tank full, whats the point?

car is designed to run on premium. why would you put anything less?

it just makes absolutely no sense to me that people are putting crap just to save a few bucks... if you can't afford the gas, you are certainly driving the wrong car..

I notice that premium does make my car run better. Premium is the way to go.

Its not a matter of being able to afford the gas its a matter of does it make a difference in how the car runs. I lease for 3 yrs and i hand the keys back to the dealer so i dont care if its good for the car or not to run premium. I just came out of an Audi lease which included all regular maintenance, since audi was paying for oil changes they were only done every 15K. Now is there anyone here that would only change there oil every 15K?. I wonder if the guy buying that car used off the lot would be happy if he knew it only had 2 oil changes in the 3 yrs and the 30K miles i drove the car lol.

But if i see a difference in performance I am going to run premium in the car. I just put a tank of the shell premium as recommended and yes i believe there is a noticeable difference where i was getting some minor hesitation on accerleration i am not getting that now.
